I received an appointment from the city inspector for a month out. In speaking with other investors, seems it’s a normal thing to come through and check CO2, smoke detectors, etc.

Problem is I may (not) have done some work on the building and have two bathrooms opened up to the studs and sub floor. Nothing permitted. General plumbing and electrical stuff.

Some REI friends say focus on the bathrooms and get them closed up and moved along. Others are saying just wait for the inspection and get my hand slapped.

This is the first walk through, there has never been an inspection before or any photo evidence.

Which route would you take?

@Jake Czaja

If they’re month to month you can just give a one month notice that the lease will be terminated.

Thanks all. I always appreciate the feedback the BP gives. I’ll report back if this goes any further.

@Joe S. Rental. I have no particular love or hate for the tree except the bill that will come along with having it removed.

This tree has been there for over 60-80 years. My problem is if it was an issue before, why is she now asking me. Why didn’t the previous owners handle it or she take it up with them.

Some things I have read say time is an issue as well. If this is a long standing issue, it not my issue because I didn’t own the property at that time.

I purchased a property in the City of Buffalo, NY a little over a year ago

My neighbor is now mad because she claims the tree is my backyard that is on the property line (it’s in my yard), is buckling her semi-new driveway and the roots are growing into her basement.

She said it’s my responsibility and that I “need to take care of it and if not, I’ll sue you”.

I told her she’ll have to do whatever she has to do. In normal circumstances I would try to discuss it a little more and work with someone on this, but the wrongs of the previous investor have suddenly become my fault and I cannot have a civilized discussion with her.

Anyone have experience with this? I see conflicting things on the internet.

Hey @Kyra Waters, fellow RT out in Buffalo. Just started investing 3 years ago and I have 6 doors.

Just thought I would reach out as someone with the same medical background and coming from the same walk of life in terms of our education and schooling.

Glad I cleared the time to attend my first meetup this week. Well worth the time. Is there anywhere where folks from this group connect on social media between the Wednesday we gather?
