I would say stick around the Biggerpockets forum, read blog posts and listen to Brandon and Josh's podcast. That should be way more valuable.

My husband and I are also looking into investing in the Sarasota area, but not as flippers but as buy and hold investors. Good deals are hard to comeby though!

I agree with both Michael's on this. It's probably not the best area to invest in without worrying about vandalism and so on.

 Good for you for taking action and already seeing some results! I don't have any specific advice as I'm just getting started myself, but am interested in seeing where you go from here. Hope you keep us updated!

Love my 2001 Honda Civic with over 200k miles on it! Every time we travel and rent a car I still long for our rusty old car back home lol. Never had any problems with it in close to 5 years that we've owned it so far. 

As you probably have read, MMM loves his Honda Odyssey and Scion xA.

Thanks for sharing your story. We're in the same boat, although you're already one step ahead of us by actually owning a property. I've been searching the MLS for the last 6 months or so and have noticed properties in Sarasota only getting more expensive and getting under contract within days. It's tough!

Because of this, we're now looking at other areas (such as North Port) as well. Rents are generally a lot lower though, but the 1% rule can still be found if you look hard enough.

Your location says Brooklyn, NY. Do you actually self-manage your FL property from NY?

Hi Robert, you've come to the right place! BP is such a great resource for educating yourself. It might be a bit overwhelming at first but that'll fade as you start to read and learn more.
