Thank you for the replies guys, means a lot. Terry, I'm going to build a small list of possible firms that I think will be a good fit, and Jeff, I will keep those questions in mind when making making decision.

Again, thank you guys!

Hey all,

I've decided to take on the task of becoming an agent, so I want to get a jump start on things now so I'm prepared later. I've looked into this on some online forums, but wanted to get some personal insights and experiences for the question of; how you go about choosing a broker? For me, good training and possible mentorship from an agent that invests is ideal. I'm going to be in the Des Moines area and have taken an interest in the Keller Williams office stationed there, as I've heard that there are many investors involved with the organization.

Any thoughts?

Thank you for your time,

-Nathan

Hey all,

Had something that I'd like to get some input on. I've recently been considering getting my realtor's license and using that as a way to get involved in the RE community while also building some capital and reputation. I'm only 18, and I'm not sure if that is an advantage or disadvantage, most likely both. What are your thoughts on this? Any insight or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Nathan

Hey all,

I'm an aspiring investor from the Des Moines, IA area looking to gain experience any way that I can in the REI game. I've reached out to some local realtors who specialize in investment properties seeing if they would be interested in acquiring someone for an intern type position, and thought I would extend the question out to the landlords and property managers around the Des Moines area. If there is anyone looking for a young and motivated student that they can show the ropes, please let me know! Also any advice or replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Nathan

Hi Kim,

Thanks for the reply. I'm in school right now but plan on taking a semester off to pursue other options. The REIA meetings and BiggerPockets meetups are something I plan on getting involved in here soon, and I hope that networking helps get my name out there.

In regards to working as an intern or something of the sort for a realtor, is any type of experience needed for that? That is something I hadn't thought of, but it seems like a great idea and opportunity.

Is there any way to tell if a realtor specializes in REI? Or do you just simply ask?

Thank you for taking the time, I really do appreciate the advice.

Hey all, had a quick question regarding getting involved with a realtor to supply leads from the MLS. I'm 18 right now, with no credit and very little capital. I have a few close friends and family that will possibly act as a supply of capital, but nothing set in stone yet. I want to start building a relationship with a realtor, but with no concrete assurance that i'll be able to act on a deal, I'm hesitant to talk with one. I don't want to be wasting there time and energy. Any advice?

@Jerad Casto My main focus is buy and hold, and @Regina Sitterley that is the plan, but since i've only just started this week, I wanted to compile a bit of a larger list before sending mail. And thank you both for the replies!

Was looking for some advice and/or methods used to develop a list of potential deals, and what exactly qualifies a property as a potential deal. As of now I've used zillow, craigslist and drving for dollars as my main sources, and am not sure if broadening my qualifications is neecessary, as about 5 hours of driving for dollars yielded only about 25 prospects. Is this typical, or am I most likely looking over houses that have potential that I cannot see?
