I'm curious if anyone has used this as an early screening tool to evaluate neighborhoods.

Zillow allows you to search an area and map out the ratings of the schools in the area. Seems like it might be a good tool to evaluate neighborhoods remotely.

Obviously, nothing beats knowing an area well and seeing it first hand, but seems like this might be a good tool to stick in the funnel.

Anyone else have tools they use to evaluate potential neighborhoods for investment?

I'm a new investor in Las Vegas as well. Given what I'm finding here I might be forced to look out of area as well. Would love to connect Carl Latting and Omar Merced

I was talking to one of my best friends last night, who is a banker with BofA, about getting a HELOC on my primary residence to possibly do some REI and he cautioned me against telling the bank that's what I would be using it for. He said, just tell them you want it for use in an emergency or for home improvement to your existing residence.

Is this true?

I'm well aware that Zillow's pricing estimates are often inaccurate, but I wonder about using the For Rent search to find what price properties in a certain area are being offered for rent. Is that any more accurate? Is the rental price set like an advertisement from the property management?
