just to piggyback on this discussion...I have been told that it is better to find a property that I'm interested in before shopping for a lender to finance.  It seems to me it should be the other way around i.e. find out what amount you have available to potentially borrow and THEN find a property.  Which is correct?  I don't want to find a 500k property and then be advised I only qualify for $300K.

Good evening everyone...just wanted to say hello and that there seems to be a vast array of great info on this site (I have not even scratched the surface). I am new to REI and am interested in multifamily rentals primarily near where my family lives in eastern PA about an hour north of Philadelphia and an hour west of New York City. We are also kicking around the idea of purchasing in the Tampa, FL area. Looking forward to educating myself here and gaining as much knowledge as possible.
