Post: REI Caribbean, PR, Central Am Help!

Hey everyone, I am currently looking to invest somewhere in Central Am, PR, or another place in the Caribbean.

I am looking for some advice, feedback, experience, etc.

I am interested in something maybe like a condo where I can pay for a property manager. I am also open to hearing why that might be a bad idea and why I should go with a single home or something else.

What are some good resources for seeing yearly occupancy rates for vacation rentals and other good resources in general?

(I do around 100k yearly with very minimal expenses, as I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment with split rent between me and my girlfriend)

Thanks!!

@Jon Holdman Thank you for the insight.  Unfortunately I am living in Charleston, SC until June 17th!

@Bill S. @Matt M. I forgot to mention I am moving with my girlfriend and we will be able to split the rent of 1 bedroom.

thanks!

I am moving to Denver, CO on June 17th.  I am looking for a 1bedroom that is maximum $1200 a month.  I have 2 dogs that are less than 50 lbs.  I would like to be in an area where I can meet a lot of young people.  When I visited I liked LoDo and the area around the Fillmore and other live music venues.  Foremost I prefer a yard or balcony, and second I prefer on site laundry or in the unit laundry.  Furnished would be a plus but not required. Also, I have a few jobs lined up but I am still looking for real estate or marketing jobs in the area!

Thanks everyone!

I really appreciate all of the feedback everyone!  Does anyone have recommendations for someone to contact for homes in Denver?

Another question for everyone... I will be super busy with work and travel while I am living in Denver, could I hire a property manager from the beginning for even when I'm living in the duplex?  Then that prop manager will carry over my side of the duplex also when I move out?

Thank you everyone for the advice!

I am going to be living in Denver starting in August.  I was wondering if is it worth buying a duplex somewhere to live in and rent out the other side if I will be moving in a year?  I would have to mortgage the duplex also.

I just graduated college and this summer I will be looking for vacation rental properties in the USVI, Puerto Rico, and Central America with a focus on Costa Rica.  I have many questions but I want to figure out what some key elements to a successful vacation rental are.

I am also considering potentially moving there and buying a duplex vacation rental or something similar so that I can live in one part and rent out the other.

In general is this profitable enough to live off of or is other work or REI necessary/recommended?

Any and all comments, please!
