I have read each and every response so far, and I appreciate every perspective. The more the hubby and I discuss a potential car purchase, the more we are realizing we enjoy building our cash reserves MORE than having a sweet ride and signing up for another car payment... until the numbers make sense. 😊

To be honest... our favorite car with the "drive for the position you want to have" mentality is this 2015 BMW M3...

On the more practical, eco-conscious side of me... we've considered SUVs and pickup trucks because of our local area.

We've also been doing some "incognito recon" with friends/acquaintances in our local market about the type of car they'd like to see their real estate agent drive up in. So far, 9 of 10 are saying the BMW.

The thing is, we truly could afford the BMW (or something in that price range) without taking much of a financial hit at this point because our income is relatively high (could almost pay cash), and we live on half our take-home pay.

Big thank you's to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far! All of your insights are definitely helping me have informed discussions with the hubby about next steps with my career - and how the office-on-wheels fits into that picture.

I'm nearing the end of real estate school and will be taking my state exam in mid-July.

I've been reading @Scott Trench's book, Set for Life, and I'm bought into the concepts. The problem I'm having is... figuring out which type of car to get when I move into becoming a real estate agent - don't want to go into much debt, but I also want to put my best foot forward as a professional. I am not quite to the 25k savings goal, but I'm getting close.

I have a 10-year-old minivan currently and don't think that vehicle is appropriate for my market. Any tips or advice?

@Adrien C. I think we briefly met at the NICIA meeting last week, as my hubby and I were first-timers to that meet-up. Nice to see there's another meeting for investors that we can attend locally!

@Hansel Sjukur If you decide you want to look for properties in NWI (Northwest Indiana), I'm happy to be a sounding board as to good neighborhoods and such. I grew up in the area and think there's a lot of opportunity here, if you know where to look (and which spots to avoid at all costs!) Happy Hunting!

@Account Closed I'd also be interested in the digital marketing agency that you work with.

@Lisa Donaldson Definitely! I sent along a connection request, so we can keep in touch. There are some solid multifamilies in NWI, but it's knowing where to look (understanding neighborhoods and such) and also whom you know. I'm on track to get my license by mid-July, if not sooner.

@Lisa Donaldson Welcome to the BP forums! Great to hear how you are actively building your portfolio - I'm based just outside Chicago, probably not too far from your multi-family. :)

Which type of investing strategy are you using? Planning to do more SFH or multi-families?

Fascinating that you do your deals 100% remotely! I'm planning to invest in Northwest Indiana (my backyard) because it's a market I understand and am finding good opportunities. In the process of getting my real estate license here, as well.
