I would stay away from these investors. If you can tell the funding is illicit, then who else can? If they are sloppy enough to be this apparent, the authorities will be coming soon. I would not want to risk having the project seized by the interested authorities.

I imagine that before you would use the return on the claim as seed capital, you would use it to attempt to recover your damaged investment. What happened to the damaged property? Are you going to repair the existing development, or rebuild with the seed capital you attain from the insurance claim? I have the impression you will be disappointed, as the claim amounts are usually very minimal.

if cryptocurrency retains it's popularity, I think we will soon see the day when real estate is bought and sold with digital currencies.

@John Krasner, I agree. Never in America's recent history has it been harder for a young person to start out economically.

so long as you have the seed capital to jump start your project, I don't see how an investor who is experienced in high risk startups would have any issues dealing in the real estate market.

You can remote manage your investments. Even if you needed to physically visit your investments, shouldn't your goal be to flip the deal fast enough you won't need to be their for any significant amount of time? If I were you, I would visit the area for about a week or so twice. Once mid-build/flip, once at the end to ensure it's fully ready for sale. You get to see the sights, sort out any problems, and learn a little something firsthand about the area in which you are investing.

@Ketan Patel, some of the blockchain tech coming out now is extremely innovative. Do you have any experience using  Ubiquity? I'd like to give them a more thorough look, but a customer testimonial is always helpful!

I would agree with @Jeffrey H., go with the size you can afford and grow from there, keeping in mind local area bylaws and ordinances.

Last thing you want is for the quality to dip to dangerous levels. It costs serious capital to bring electricity to all the lots in your residential development. If you want to try and cut costs on something so important, you may find the faulty wiring could be the death of you!
