@Jeremy Clayton I think you have an interesting point here.  CBS just came out with an article showing how some of the biggest property management groups actually had record years last year and were doing evictions while other articles show that smaller landlords in more regulated cities arent able to do any evictions and are loosing their shirts (and are selling now to the big guys).  I think alot of it depends on your local laws rather than the national ones at the moment.

@Gemma Collins my 2 cents would be to sit out for a bit and learn from the process.  Even though rates are low, landlords are getting squeezed and there isnt anything that we can do about it.  I am also seeing that different areas treat this situation differently, so it makes sense to invest in 'safer' areas going forward.  Hope it helps!

We have issues in Pittsburgh with tenants requesting aid and then just pocketing the money without paying the landlord.

I think we need a plan with how we can get this removed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Three federal judges declared it unconstitutional, however The US Supreme Court has not ruled on it, so it remains in place.  Also, because it takes 6+ months for the Supreme Court to put something on their docket and this is supposed to expire in June (even though it will most likely run past), it will never see the light of day there.  Unfortunately, our government has found a loophole to keep this on the books.

Hey @Josh Culver - nice to meet you!  The city has some of the most tenant friendly laws in the country and through not allowing evictions and auto-renews leases for unpaying tenants.  The rest of the area is more reasonable.  Do everything possible to stay away from the city.

Thanks to all who attended!  We strong voice with all of those questions!  Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am amazed that contract law does not apply here and that the executive division and not the legislative division is the one who will be making sure that this is enforced.

Just recieved some feedback from a prior post.  We cannot create issues for the city when we attend these meetings in any way, shape or form.  Think Nelson Mandela and please come with a personal story to tell of how you (or someone you know) has been harmed by this bill.

From someone last night:  "The incompetent boobs at the city are not telling the truth. I personally spoke to one of the city council as did a number of other landlords. I told them that this stupid bill would cause a house shortage, they didnt care. What will surprise you is that at least half of the city council are renters."

Below is the bill.  In short, it makes it so that any verbiage in your lease (including end date) does not apply.
