Hi @Joe Chin

We are based in Australia and invest in the US.  You do need to make sure you find a good property manager, but a good one will certainly take the stress off you investing from afar.  I would ensure to do your due diligence on the property managers before bringing them onboard, but once you have a good one, it can certainly make a difference

Cheers

Hi Jordan, thanks for the tip about Transferwise borderless account! I knew about Transferwise but never really looked into this account option.

Their website is americanproperties dot com dot au. They do seem legit from what I've read.

G'day Alex

They certainly do seem a legitimate Turnkey property provider.  As a few members have discussed through, just make sure to do your due diligence on the areas the properties are offer and the ACTUAL market value.  Even though their service fee appears to be cheap, often the properties sold are higher than market value.  Returns are still great though.  Just make sure you double and triple check everything, don't take anything for granted :)

I am SO excited to be posting in here for the first time after listening to hundreds of hrs of BP podcasts. I also know that nothing in life is free and my skills lie in sales. So if there are any seasoned RE pros out there reading this, I'm more than happy to dial some phones or return a few emails in return for any wise words.

I also have a pretty funny situation going on in terms of getting started. I am an English and Canadian citizen living in Sydney, Aus, and planning to move back to Canada in a couple of years. I feel like I should be investing in Canada or the US as I'd like to be closer to my deals when I move back in a couple of years.

However, there's a part of me that. is horrified at the prospect of buying RE in a totally different continent and time zone! But it also wouldn't be any different than investing in RE from BC in Ontario if that makes sense.

Are there ay Aussies here investing in North America or visa versa? I'd love to connect and figure this all out :)

Dom

 Hi Dominic,

You surely can invest in North America from Australia!  Some careful due diligence, and make sure you get a good team on the ground.   Rules will be the same from Canada or Australia i guess :)

Best of luck!  Happy to chat anytime

Cheers

Doubtful guys.  I feel this crisis is going to have a larger impact on the US economy than the AU economy, although we will both be hit hard, and things wont be the same again afterwards, I have a feeling that AU will bounce back a little quicker than US so I'm guessing range between 0.60 - 0.65 will be around par...

 Awesome Stephen.  Once all this lifts i will reach out and we can have a chat :)

@Michael King @Dave H.

Not sure if you guys managed to get some AUD, but since your post (i believe...trying to get my timings right) the AUD totally crashed for a few days, down as low as 0.55c USD.  Almost looked as if it would hit 0.50c but has settled back a little now

Hi Stephen,

How do you like the area?  I have been fascinated by the New Orleans market!  Would love to chat sometimes, always wanted to expand down into that area :)

@Aisha Young

Hi Aisha,

Welcome to BP!  The US is certainly a great opportunity for cashflow for us Aussies, as getting any form of positive cashflow from our Aussie property is very difficult.  I will never knock our market though, the growth we have had (and yet to have!) has been amazing, but I love the US market and have been investing successfully now for over 7 years!

It can certainly be done from Australia, just need to make sure to do all your research and find good people on the ground you can trust to help

Best of luck!  Reach out if I can help at all

Cheers

Lindsay

Absolutely correct!  I use a Skype phone number to give me a "US" number so when they call me it diverts to my AU mobile.  I pay $20 per year for the service then just a couple of dollars for a relatively long call when the diversion happens. I use the number regularly, and pay less than $15 per month
