@Will G.

Wow! Definitely have to consider the impact of short term AirBnBs switching to standard lease rentals.

Here is some rationale: Harder for tenant to lock themselves out.  Deadbolt is more secure than the locking doorknob. Doorknob without cylinder is a bit cheaper (it is not done primary for the bit of cost savings - it is done for the other reasons).

I'm going in the opposite direction, changing my handle set from single lock to double lock :)   In a couple years lets compare notes so we'll know which way is better.  :) Thanks for your input.

@Bjorn Ahlblad is correct--use a locking handset (doorknob) and a locking deadbolt.

I decided to upgrade from a single locking deadbolt to both a locking deadbolt and a locking handle set. Thank you for the suggestion.

Why do entry door handle sets break down on rentals? Its a mystery! The thumb latch seems to wear out and gets too loose on the sets I have been installing, and they are name brand sets. On my residence it never breaks! In the last year I've had to replace 25% of them. Any brand & style suggestions for a more durable set, which must incl deadbolt too? I mainly shop at Home Depot, but I could buy elsewhere if it will be better quality.
