Hey Bigger pockets family. This time last year It was only a thought to invest into real estate. Now it seems I have the bug. I have my first duplex up and running and am in the talks with others to joint venture and build the portfolio. Within the next couple of years I was hoping to invest out of country into the US market. I have always wanted to live there 6 months out of the year. I was looking at Texas, Florida and obviously California (to expensive for me). I was hoping I can gain some insight on some possible strategies "to bring my talents to south beach" - Lebron James. Let me rephrase I would like to bring My dollars To U.S lol Any advice would be helpfull Thanks guys!

Again Thank you all who have reached out to me and gave me advice and help over the last year.

Post: I Finished the Challenge of Buying a property before 2018!

I have been following bigger pockets since May of 2017. I started out listening to all the podcasts reading the books and searching for property. As the months went by I have been getting more and more into it. Meeting with local investors. Looking up deals on MLS 2 -3 Times a day. Then I heard the podcast with Brandon Turner about challenging your self to buy a property before the year is up. THAT is exactly what I did. I bought a duplex as my first home. I will continue to live at home until my fiance and I are married and rent out the duplex, earn cash flow and hopefully buy a second duplex next year. I am very excited to finally start my path towards financial freedom. Thanks Bigger Pockets.

@David Dachtera I think minimum wage is 11 dollars here. it is supposed to go up to 15 by 2018/19 I think it is tougher here its because we are so close to Toronto. the major city.

@Anthony Dooley I work full time at a pretty decent job, Would it be smart to hold off on paying my self rent for a year or 2 and use that towards a second property and potentially grow ?

@John P. Thank you for the response. It is a lot different in Canada though, especially with the prices.

Good Morning Bigger Pockets family, (Good Afternoon to some)

I have been learning as much as I can about investing, I have met a mentor, I have read books and have started networking as much as I can. I can honestly say since I have found bigger pockets my drive has shot way up. Now I am in a situation where I rent and my fiance and I are getting married next year. But I want to start investing now. Is it smart to buy duplex - fourplex now to build my portfolio and use my RSPs to knock away land tax since it will be my first purchase or would it be smart to buy my own home with my wife? I feel stuck and do not know what to do. any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kolton

Post: Investing In A small Multi Family

Hi Bigger Pockets Family,

I have been looking at small multi family 30 minutes away from where I live. It is a lot cheaper but would it be more less profitable because the housing market is a lot less then where I live in Canada. I live in Hamilton and the multi families go for 3 to 600k and out of town I am looking at 2 - 350. Also I live with my wife and child so it might be a little bit harder to do the house hack. I really want to grow my wealth and I do not think SFH's will do the trick and it would take a lot longer.

@Thomas S. Thank You, I have somewhat of an understanding of the LTB, But like you said I should get a better handle on it before I jump in.

I am starting out, I listen to Bigger pockets every single day but I feel like it is a lot harder for me to relate due to the price of houses here in Canada Ontario, I can not find a house for under 100 Grand.  for A Decent fixer Upper I am looking at 250, 300K. Would I need to go in with a partner on the first house rental since I will get hit with the 20% down on a rental Investment. Andy Advice would be great. Thank you
