@George Blower Thanks, George. Only TD Ameritrade? I need Fidelity.

Also, right now I only have passive income outside of my W-2. Do I then qualify for a solo 401k? Is there an alternative that functions similarly?

Thank you, everyone--this is very helpful. My firm's rules are not designed at all with my benefit in mind--my restrictions are much more significant than those of friends who work for other firms.

But I will pitch an outside trust linked to a Fidelity brokerage account and see if they bite.

Sorry for a basic question, but as someone with a FT job I qualify for a solo 401k, correct? Or is there another vehicle that functions similarly that I should consider?

Thanks again.

@Dmitriy Fomichenko Would it be possible to open something like a solo 401k, roll in an IRA, and link that to fidelity?

thanks @John Spears and @Brian Eastman. Unfortunately, I'm very limited in my options. I talked to my compliance department, and it's either Fidelity, or a managed account with my employer, Merrill Lynch--with a corresponding management fee of almost 3%.

I thought I had heard somewhere that one could layer greater self directed options into a Fidelity account without the seven figure balance, but I suspect that was wishful thinking.

Thanks for the input--much appreciated.

Has anyone been able to invest in RE using a Fidelity self directed IRA?

I want to invest in a private placement, but Fido says I can only buy from their list (I can ask them to vet a pp for their list, but you need at least $1 mm with them).

I would love to be able to diversify my retirement funds, as I'm overexposed to stocks and bonds.

I work on Wall Street, so my only account options are with Fidelity or with my employer, who is even more limited in options.

Thanks!

Would you send me some, too? This is an area in which I'm interested. Thanks!
