@Shane Forrest

I am new to this, but I did just take my course for becoming an agent and that sounds weird. Does anyone agree or am I just taking it the wrong way.

So the agent that said this have you formed any type of relationship such as a buyers agency? You saying "My" realtor implies he is, but just making sure. If so and if there is no talk of a commission on the agreement then he really does not have a choice to help you with or without a commission. Also a lawyer would probably be the best choice for someone to review through any paperwork as we are not professionals in that area, but we can provide guidance and advice.

You also mentioned the seller does not want to have an agent so I don't know how that is going to go over if you are asking him to pay a commission anyway.

@Jayzon Miller

What exactly are you looking to do. Give us more information I'm sure people will chime in. Do you have steady income? There are ways to get a property through insured loans such as FHA or VA. Which will help with your down payment. You can also look into house-hacking. If your looking to flip some houses do some research on hard money loans.

It is understood that for beginners it is a good idea to attend a local REI group, and maybe even find a mentor to show you the ropes. If you give me more information in regards to your current situation and what you are looking to do. I will come back and hopefully get you in the right areas to research!

@Khalil Favard

I am just now finishing up my online course at NYREI. Check them out so far everything has gone great, and I learned a lot. They also offer several places to take the final exam prior to the state exam. Let me know if you need any help.

Just a tip check out groupon, and google for deals. I was able to get one hell of a deal!

@Charles Smyler

Once you are licensed in New York you are required to renew your license every two years if you wish to work as a real estate agent. This is done online, but must complete 22.5 hours of continuing education. You can read about this at

http://www.dos.ny.gov/licensing/re_salesperson/re_...

@Sabi Const

Yes there are requirements to getting a license. You can read about it in the link I provided above. Unless you have a felony or you are not of age you should be good to go. Just put in the time and effort of doing your research. Look up NYREI school which is located in Manhattan. They give you the option of taking it online which is what I did. So far it has been a smooth process, and will update you guys hopefully in two weeks when I pass!

@Wayne Brooks

I am a go getter, but that is overboard lol.

@Jay Hinrichs You would think this would be a standard, but it seems everything in New York can be backwards at times. I am anxious to get started and hope to be as successful as you one day!

I am taking my course now in New York. Try looking in Groupon like another member mentioned already. I was able to get an awesome deal which was practically free, but that is not likely to happen again. Either way I am taking my class from NYREI which I believe is located in manhattan, but the online has been awesome so far. I have about one more week till I am finished. You get what you put into it.

If you don't understand something search or even ask BP. They also offer additional resources which may be available depending on package or pay more. Wish you the best!

@Sharnell James I apologize if I am not understanding what you are saying, but it seems you might have the wrong idea on the schooling aspect of real estate. If you are speaking in relation to becoming a real estate agent then he must go through a school to meet the requirements implemented in your state. For instance in New York I am taking a 75 hour course through an approved school by the Department of State.

After being licensed Keller Williams does offer tons of training to its licensees, but obviously it is not the same across the board. My advice to him after taking the required course and passing the state exam is to sit down with the broker at Keller Williams and ask any questions he may have. I recently had the pleasure of doing so and it really helped me out a lot. Again I apologize if I misunderstand what you are trying to say, but I hope this answers some of your questions!

Good Luck!
