Well I meant to say Putnam County instead, but either way I am interested in the surrounding counties as well.

Hey BP!

 Well I have been off the site for some time now as I was busy redeploying back to this wonderful country. I am moving back to New York in the next few days as my time comes to an end. My plan is to go to school considering the military pays me a TON of money and school is free. The downside to this is banks do not recognize this money as income and will not allow me to finance a mortgage.

I am seeking a possible partner of some sort to get started. I am interested in buy and holds, and flips. So if anyone is interested in these areas or anything for that matter and wants to split the risk and or costs of the ordeal just let me know.

I agree with what others have said, but one point I partly disagree with is becoming an agent to learn the market. I am currently somewhat contemplating weather or not to get a RE license, and this exact reason has me thinking. For an investor I feel at the beginning it might be worth the time to find an expierenced agent in the area. More then likely they will know a lot more then you and can save you from any potential mishaps.

If you are confident in the area and the market maybe then this will benefit you. As Darrel said it saves money and sooner or later you will probably regret waiting years. Good Luck with whatever you choose, and hope to hear nothing but success from you in the future!

@Mason Keith

That is a pretty solid point that he made, but maybe the evening is just as effective. For instance my father and a few others I know of would usually do their trip to home depot after a night of work to save them the time in the morning. Unless of course anything popped up last minute. Well hopefully you find what you are looking for!

So after browsing BP today I took some time to look for any locals to connect with. After some time I decided maybe it would be easier to post in the New York section. Looking for anyone who works with real estate outside the city and not four hours upstate. Primarily Putnam county, peekskill, Lake peekskill, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Yorktown.

@Joanna Hollingsworth

I am curious about what you have said about becoming a broker after 2 years. I know it varies by state, but why would that be a requirement? I understand as a broker you can still work under another broker, but why make it mandatory do you know?

@Lisa Kaslyn

Hey Lisa welcome to BP! I noticed you were from carmel, and that was suprising considering I rarely see anyone close by to Mahopac. What are your plans for investing? Are you looking for buy and hold, fix and flip, wholesale?
