Thanks for the love and support! Scheduled my exam yesterday. I am looking to be independent right now but we will see how it all works out with time.

Interested. Busy right now studying, but as we discussed in my other post I am looking for something similar to learn and grow with others. Let me know!

Today was an incredible day! Just a few weeks ago I was undecided if I wanted to take this route. Well I was able to get an awesome deal on an online class required in New York. Most of my day is now consumed of reading and learning about the profession which I am Loving.

Today I scheduled a sit down with a local keller Williams brokerage. Prior to showing up I was getting nervous because I did not know what to expect, but the atmosphere in this place was awesome. We talked the details and I am eager to get started. It seems Keller Williams is the best place for me to get started with all the training and help they offer. This post is sort of meaningless, but I just wanted to share my experience today as I was very pleased.

That does help thank you @Jerry W.

As to your question why go through the time or expense. Well really was only looking at it from a tax standpoint. I am still learning, but I was just trying to get a better understanding on what would be the best way for writing off on taxes for things like mileage, gas, advertisements etc.. Is this all still possible without forming a corporation?

Thanks for that information. I was more of interested in as real estate agent if this was legal to form an entity as a salesperson. To my understanding it was only possible if I was a licensed broker.

I am currently taking an online course to become an agent in New York. One question I have is in regards to an LLC or S corp for tax purposes. I keep getting conflicting information on weather it is a option or not as a salesperson. If I remember reading correctly only a brokerage may do so. I am taking advice from BP and looking to speak with several CPA's, but I want to go in with some sort of direction in which I want to go if at all possible.

Hey guys I apologize for not responding right away! I am actually taking an online class to meet the requirements for a real estate agent. I feel this will help me get my foot in the door and obviously help me with networking and finding deals. I am pretty much free whenever to discuss any possible joint ventures.

Side note the other day I was browsing trulia and I found a property right up the road from me which might be a really good property to flip.

I am in a similar situation. I took the test for NYPD three years ago while I was in the military, and they expect to hit the academy beginning of next year. With the military though I have the G.I bill benefit which will pay me almost 4,000$ a month just to go to school.

I have done a lot of research on this particular topic, and still doing so. I think double dipping in both of our situations wont hurt as it allows for a backup plan if you were to fail as an agent. The other side to this though is I see a lot of people talking about how being part time as an agent usually ends up more of a hassle then anything else. I say take advantage of being young and hungry and go after it. We fail we get back up and eventually we will find our way to success. Good Luck!

Awesome thank you for all the responses. I have read about the possibility of needing to pay fee's for multiple MLS systems. So I will have to look into MLS is tied to the specific broker office I am interested in.

@Joel Owens for the IC agreement is this something I can ask the broker office to look at prior to going any further? I still have plenty of time before I get to this point, but I am trying to do my due diligence and if I do proceed become an "expert" in the subject.

@Kedian Jimenez I agree! I am not sure exactly in relation to being a real estate agent, but I feel a lot of people just go about their career or life just sliding by. Which is actually what helps motivate me. Being in the military I have seen this more then anything so now I feel I can conquer the world in a sense ha ha. Being young and taking risk I feel is something all should take advantage of, but with time and effort good things will come. I could be completely wrong, but only time will tell!

Hey BP,

Well I am toying with the idea of becoming a real estate agent. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to get a fantastic deal on the required course for New York. So I will probably be more active here with questions if I am unable to find on the web. So today I come to ask about the location.

For instance if an agent picks a broker in a city . Does that broker tie you to a specific location or are you able to work in the surrounding cities/counties as long as it is in the same state?

Also on the side what research can I start doing to determine if it is a good location to start my journey and work out of. I have a few contacts that I went to school with and they ended up moving to another county. I feel it would be awesome if I can get started where I was living the past 21 years of my life.
