Quote from @Charlie MacPherson:
Call your insurance agent and file a claim.  I just had a water claim that has ballooned into something MUCH bigger.

I'm a Ham Radio operator and paid a professional installer $4,600 to put a multi-thousand dollar antenna up for me.  They NEGLECTED to install a drip loop in the cables coming into the house, which is a pretty standard thing to do.

After a significant rain event, there was a lot of water intrusion into the house, damaging floors, ceilings (below) and a lot more.

We now have contractors ripping out walls, running HEPA filters, etc (and no doubt fortifying their invoices).

All I can say is that living like this is no fun.  Use the insurance policy you've been (hopefully) paying for.

Thanks @Charlie MacPherson for your input. I never thought about the insurance claim route until you just brought it up. Truthfully I got a quote of $3400 for this job today so I might be changing my mind soon about that if this is the case.

Roofer. Skylights are notorious for leaking. Really nice to look at but a PIA! Good luck and happy investing!

Thanks @Melanie Thomas  I had a roofer come out today and give me a estimate to rubber roof the whole thing & replace skylight completely for $3400. Just trying to figure out is this the best solution for the problem. I will be attaching some pics and video to this so people can see

It looks like the water is coming in from the skylight. That's a common culprit and usually an easy fix. Get a roofer up there to check it out and seal it up.

Thanks Nathan so much you are always helpful. I'm waiting for a roofer now that I met earlier to text me whether he can go today or tomorrow.

Nathan practices that daily :p

Definitely a skylight leak just from the look and nature of it. Easy is relative; it could just be the seams of the glass/plexiglass, or the seams of the flashing, or it could be completely installed incorrectly and need to come out and be redone.

Thanks JD for you input. just wondering do you think I should get multiple estimates on this job to get a fair share of eyes on the situation? I never got roof work done before

Quote from @Jerry V.:

Hmmm.... Water damage on the ceiling ... has it been raining there?  Then, let me guess ... perhaps it's a leak from the roof!?!?!?  (sigh) lolol  Roof or the flashing around the skylight (not the skylight itself).  "Can be" a simple or straight forward fix.  Don't have any slick salesmen tell you "we need to replace all the shingles around the skylights and re-flash it!"  Total BS.  A knowledgeable roofer knows how to fix leaks without replacing things.  Unless of course, the top flashing on the skylight is rusted through, THEN yes you would have to replace that. :P

Good luck on the project!  (Jerry w/ J's Roofing , Richarson, TX)

Thanks Jerry, for the input and break down I'm waiting for the roofer to go check it out now. I will put what he say back in this forum to get your thoughts on it.

Quote from @Eliott Elias:

Pinpoint it from it's source, looks like it may be coming from the roof or skylight. Drywall work is easy

Thanks Eliott, I figured that would be the issue is coming from. So glad for these forums to get other knowledgable opinions to assist.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the blurry pics but this is pics of a 2nd floor unit bathroom of a duplex I own. Just wanted thoughts on what you think this could be?

Also should I call a roofer or plumber to handle this problem or just handyman?

The bathroom has a sky light & it’s a 1950’s building so it has them old plaster walls.

Thanks in advance for any input
