@Richard Moreno that is disappointing to hear your having trouble renting the unit.

Eastside has really gone up in prices - do you think there is too much apartment inventory for the # of potential renters?

Great answer by @Neil Goradia -- this is a tough one to start with - partner up with someone - if you make $20 but learn as much as you can its a win.

Landon I am not from your area but it looks like your asking about C Springs and live there as well.  What areas would you not want your mom / wife / sister to even walk in - stay away from those areas.

- If your new to the area walk ALL the streets.

- Start your own lists A: 'I wouldn't buy here with monopoly money' B: 'If something comes on the MLS in this neighborhood I would offer site unseen! '

@Herwin G. I would simply want to know what the average rents are for the type of property you are buying - good to know you can rent the place and not be cash flow negative.

@Michael Brown   I think your getting the standard contractor treatment here.  Send me a PM or email with some details I may be able to connect you with someone in the area.

Hey Raymond --- I live / have invested in those areas and having a hard time finding deals - have started looking your way in Pawtucket / Providence.

There could be deals to be had here if you look hard enough - maybe I'm just not over the fact its not 2014 anymore....

Feel free to DM / Email if you want to dive into more details.

@Tyler Libby Thank you   ---   did you simply live in one room and rent the other rooms?  Or did you turn vacant space like garage / basement into an in-law?

OK BPers

Current situation - Personally need a new place to live - Want to keep house hacking (own one 2-Fam which I currently house hack) - Not having great luck on the MF market in my neck of Massachusetts - Seeing potential good deals on SFH

Looking into buying a SFH with a basement / garage / shed Anything that I can turn into an In-Law and live in said in-law while renting the main unit.

In the short term the large SFH would drive a higher rent than most MF units would rent for. In long term (when I move out) I feel the in law would both add value to houses value or increase rent if kept as rental.

My ask if has anyone done this as a house hack?  Success and failures? - Headaches and triumphs?!

- I am in my late 20's single - and have no shame in living in a freshly renovated in-law apt!

Thanks in advance guys - Jim
