Hi @Spencer Ross Hewlett , welcome to BP! I also saw your other post here. Congratulations on closing a deal! Is that a property that you'll eventually rent out?

I'm more looking to invest using the rent-to-own strategy. I'm also looking to purchase my first house, preferably one that has a suited basement that I can eventually rent out... Finding properties to buy rent and hold might be hard here in Calgary but I'm sure they're out there. Prices are high and rent is a bit cheap.

We had a meetup with some investors here in Calgary a few weeks ago. Will let you know if another one comes up!

Cheers!

I'll also go with Never split the difference by Chris Voss. I like how he uses his stories and turns them into good, actionable advice.

Post: Moving to Canada - which city should I choose?

@Gaurav Dhir Thanks for starting this thread. I live in Calgary, moved about 2.5 years ago. I love the city and I definitely love the mountains as well. Downtown is not congested and it is the right size for me. Those were my main reasons why I moved here. A few months ago, I got interested into Real Estate Investing and looking to invest here as well.

I'm looking to invest in my first property as well. Because the prices here are really expensive and rent is cheap, I'm looking into the lease option (rent-to-own) strategy as it might be the best strategy in this market. Although I still have a lot to learn!

In my opinion, oil and gas industry will probably have at least one more boom before the solar power / battery industry advances in the energy sector. I don't think the majority of people will be able to adapt to it in the next 5-10 years.

Good luck and welcome to Canada!

@Omar Khan I haven't invested in any yet but looking to. I'm quite new so I might not be able to give you a clear picture of AB market. I believe there are other strategies you can apply in a market like AB. Buy-rent-hold might not be a good strategy though because of the low rent prices.

@Ram Srinivasan I agree! Thanks for the info. Any tips on how to land on those kinds of deals?

@Omar Khan Looking to buy in single/multi-family homes.

@Travis Hewlett Thanks! What strategies are you using for your investments the Calgary market? I read that rent-to-own might be a good strategy for markets that are highly priced.

Hi everyone,

My name is Ian. Not only I am new to BP, but also new to Real Estate Investing. I'm in the process of learning as much as I can, reading through the forums and listening to BP podcasts.

I live in Calgary, Canada and will most likely invest in the area for the first few deals. I'm hoping to meet some other investors in the area and hoping to learn and network with you all! I love the positivity the BP community bring to the discussions. Thanks, everyone!
