@Mariah Fyvie You're in a good area there. Definitely check out the REI groups within driving distance... you can find them on Meetup (we're not supposed to plug groups directly here). Also, you'll get to meet a lot of BP folks in person, and they are great at getting you pointed in the right direction. (:

Call out to @Tom A.  and the SE Michigan crew on here - I'm sure the Metro Detroit folks can give you a current recommendation.

Hi @Jarrod English  - I knew as soon as I opened this thread that you would be bombed with ideas (:

I'll put in one more vote for the Midwest.  I've lived on both the east and west sides of Michigan, and found them both good for rentals and flips.  There are also good, trustworthy people that are also members on this site you could contact for help, to drive by a property, etc.  So, there's my two cents.

Anywhere you go, you will likely find help if you're willing to work with others.  Just make sure to check references!

@Steve Wilmers  - First, I think you're in a great area to get going. There are a lot of good multi-family units in Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas.

Secondly, I'd buy lunch and talk up some good property managers and/or multi-unit owners in the area. The city has plenty of quirks, and it's good to know them in advance.

Finally, talk to some good wholesalers and realtors in the area. Things are moving pretty quickly right now, but with the right people on your team, you should do well. Good luck!

@Haven Garber  I think those are very good places to start looking.  There is a very nice group of SE Michigan investors on here, and I work on the West side of the state (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo).

If anything, I would check references like crazy.  For instance, I know a person that will run a whole job in Grand Rapids, and I would barely need to check on it.  BUT... I found this person through family, and then checked references before even starting to work with them.  So perhaps start with the 'family' breadcrumb, and see if you like what you find.

Otherwise, go with the people on here that can start you in the right direction.  Do your due diligence, and you should be all set.  Happy hunting!

@Ricky Fleming Those are two great spots... I just made the opposite move a little under a year ago (Ann Arbor to Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo Area). If you are looking in GR, I'm happy to lend whatever help I can here. It sounds like you're already getting the wheels moving with the Ann Arbor group. Keep it up!

@Maggie H. And depending on where you are at in SE Michigan, there are a lot of good REI clubs around you. BP is excellent, and so are the face-to-face meetings. They will really help you get moving. If anything, just search for what's out there on Meetup. Good luck!

I am getting a little out of the loop in Ann Arbor (I moved almost a year ago), but check out the local REI club there (it's on Meetup). I would bet dollars to donuts someone there can point you in the right direction...

Hi @Mark Jones ! This is a great resource, and I would recommend reaching out to people and sending private messages, etc. to get conversations going. I have been helped and helped others A LOT through this site, and it seems like you've already got some experience.

Have a good one!
