Post: General Contractor Suggestions

Hey BP!

I bought a house in Mountain View recently that is 1,100 sq ft on a large 6,300 sq ft lot. I'm looking to expand the house. The previous owner had permits for an 400 ft expansion. I'd like to make some minor modifications to that plan and expand. Does anyone have a good recommendation for general contractors?

Thanks again!

Steve Job's lived in a modest house, in a regular neighborhood -- no gates or anything. I literally walked to his house one day.

If he had been into real estate, he probably would have built a smart house -- something similar to the "smart dorm" build by the Berkeley kid.

One of things I would like to see is an app that shuts off all electricity/appliances at night, and when no one else is home.

Hey Edita D.,

I have been looking to invest in San Diego as well, but it is pretty hard to actually find promising cash flowing properties since San Diego is limited by land.

Where exactly are you looking near Balboa Park? North Park, and South Park have some places that I think can cash flow. I never really look at condos because of HOAs, but that's just me.

Tim Gordon: Hey Tim, I haven't quite decided if I am going to live in my first place, or if i'm just going to rent it out.

Also, I just signed up for "San Diego Creative Investors" and it looks like the next meeting is May 8th?

Anyways, I'll have look into those OC clubs as well!

Tim Gordon: Thanks for the response. I'm hoping to get more involved in an REI club within a couple months. Thanks for the great links. Are you involved in all three clubs?

Don Konipol: Just did a little research on Little Italy, San Diego. Places seem to be relatively expensive for you get. Have invested in any condos in that area?

Rob Condy: Thanks for the great post -- it was the most insightful thing I read all day. As far as REI, I wasn't looking to much into appreciation, because like you said California isn't the state to do that. I also have a friend looking into places in North Park, I should probably start looking there. My main focus thus far has been in North San Diego -- places like Carlsbad, Ensinitas, and Poway. Have you invested in any places in the Mesa's? My goal is generate a steady cash flow for my first place. Thanks again for the great post.

Hey everyone!

I've been reading this forum for roughly a month now, and there is a TON of useful information about real estate investing in general. However, I noticed that there weren't really any area specific posts, so I would like to start one for the San Diego area -- since that is where I am looking to invest within the next year.

My questions are, what do you guys think of the San Diego Area in general?

Also, I have read a few REI books that talk about "Location, Location, and Location", so what San Diego cities do you think have the most potential? I am having a lot of trouble of narrowing down the BEST cities in San Diego. I have heard a lot of hype about the Chula Vista area.

I just graduated college at UCSD, and accepted a job in the San Diego area (70k/year as an engineer). I've managed to save up 50k to invest in the RE. Please let me know your thoughts and what cities you think work best in San Diego.

Thanks in advance.
