Welcome to BP @Rechung Fujihira! Had to get on here and give you a shout out. I've only lived in Hawaii for a year but the BoxJelly was one of the first places I looked up online when I got here. Haven't had a chance to stop by yet but its awesome what you and your partner have created there. I'm a big fan of WeWork and their biz model.

Great to see fellow entrepreneurs on here getting into real estate and furthering their knowledge! Look forward to connecting.

Hey Joe, I'm currently in the process myself. I'll be transferring my CA broker's license after I get my renewal and verification forms back. As Jeff mentioned, you still have to pass the Hawaii state portion of the exam. But to my knowledge, as long as your license is: in a reciprocal state, licensed and in "active" status, then yes, you can receive equivalency status for the main components that make up the requisites for sitting for your HI broker exam (Prelicensing Education, Broker Experience, Uniform Section equivalency). To get licensed in another state as a broker is still a process and time consuming. With a 4-year degree you will still be required to take multiple courses and sit for the state exam. For me the whole process took about 7mo and I was taking classes online and at night school when I wasn't working. You should state your reasons for obtaining your license through this route because if you're trying to save on RE commissions, generate side income, or start a brokerage company it may benefit you to just start off with getting your salespersons license here in HI. There are a lot of BP members that could point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Ridiculous that guys like this are actually rewarded for bad behavior. Came across a similar story regarding Airbnb couple days ago: http://dailym.ai/1PPYNml

I'm glad that at least @Michael Mazzella put one in the books for RE investors!

Hey @Steve G., I moved to Hawaii last year from the mainland and had to open a bank account here because the only physical ones that exist on the island are all local. The banks here are little outdated in terms of technology but the service is good.

I have accounts at BofA, Chase, and Wells Fargo and still use them regularly solely online. Looks like you would benefit most from an institution that offers the biggest ease of use online and with limited fees associated with it. Go with BofA or Chase, they have the largest daily/monthly transfer limits and lowest fees IMO if you have enough in your account to be a preferred member. Wells Fargo is one of the largest real estate lenders and they're awesome to work with so that's a solid option for down the line. Good luck.

Aloha gang! Just wanted to give a quick shout out to the BP community which I've been a huge fan of. I've been a passive onlooker for awhile now (browsing forums/reading articles) and am excited to learn and share more actively with everyone. My name is Daniel Lee and I recently moved to Oahu from Los Angeles, CA last year. I'm an entrepreneur at heart and have had success on the mainland starting and managing a couple businesses there (non-real estate related). I'm happy to say now though, that I have the time to go full-time into real estate investing.

I've already met a couple awesome members, namely @Cory Nemoto and @Michael Mazzella. I took Michael's mentorship course and it was one of the best things I could have done for my knowledge and career. I'm looking forward to meeting many more open, like-minded people!

As far as real estate goes, I'll be focusing my attention on SFH wholesaling and rehab projects. I have interest and experience in commercial real estate but that's an area I'm looking at further down the road. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to connect and hope everyone is off to a great year!
