I'm surprised that they would allow you to move in without a lease, honestly. The landlord did not do something right. I would bring up the concerns with your current landlord, and state that the condition of the appliances is a concern to you, and you do not want to be responsible for them if they are damaged. Possibly as for a change in the lease where the landlord is responsible for the damaged appliances, or if it stops working due to the preexisting damage you are not responsible.

Normally, You wouldn't be responsible for any preexisting damage to the unit itself, it sounds like they're trying to squeeze in some hopeful replacements. They could very much not be doing that on purpose though, they might just not have realized it from your shoes.

@Raul Ruvalcaba, I'm not sure i fully understand. Your step father was given access to the property but both parties still had shared interest in the property? Why would you mother have financial interest in the property if your step father had control of it? It seems she would have been given a settlement of some type to give your step father control.

If there was shared interest, why didn't your mother have access to the property? I understand your step father had control, but i would assume with shared financial interest they would both have access to the property equally.

@Ryan Moore the subscription based MS office is a little different than a cloud based solution. What happens is you subscribe to it and physically download the software to your computer, and to use it you sign in with your Microsoft account.

The download versions are great, but what happens is they become outdated when a new one comes out, but with the subscription you get the newest office when they release it.

The subscription is a bit more expensive, but honestly, it's where Microsoft is going and there is no way to avoid that. One side note is the amazon download is only a 1 pc option, so you buy one per PC, where as if you ever need office on a second device you just up the subscription by $2/mo which would be a tremendous savings.

Also, iCloud and Office 365 are completely separate products. iCloud handles data backup mainly, where as Office 365 is the subscription platform for all of Microsoft's products.

Also, Dpeends on where you work, Ryan, But most companies have a microsfot HUP program for their employees which gives you a license to 2016 office for 5 PCs for a one time cost of 9.99. This is worth looking into and worth every penny!

@Major Robertson, To touch on this note a bit. New Mac's normally come with a 60 day trial of office and after that you end up having to pay anyways, so it would only be a temporary solution.

@Ryan Moore.

Go on this website and look into the $6.99/mo subscription to office. That will be your best route for 1 PC, and it includes everything you're looking for. That will be office 2016 for Mac, it'll be a huge change but 100% worth it from '08.

@David Sray i wouldn't worry if they are drywall cracks. You can patch these, but from my experience they will come back. My house has a few of these and they seem to  be related to the temperature change inside/outside the house. The foundation has not moved in our house, but drywall was replaced once with a crack that came back.

Long answer short, I wouldn't worry. They're just superficial.

Man, This looked like my house just they had a chair rail and the top was wall paper. We couldn't handle it and bit the bullet to tear it out and put up drywall. It wasn't expensive, just took a bit of extra work/money.

On the plus side, it really gives you an inside look at the house. When we did it we discovered a few additional things that needed to be fixed that would have posed a huge issue if not corrected in the future. Plus take that time to run any additional plugs, switches, cable boxes that you might need.

Hey @Eric Armstrong, I would look into one of the premium themes on WordPress. They will typically range from $5-$50 and are well worth the cost. With a WordPress site, you own the hosting and most of the content you just use their CMS (Content management system).

This allows you to be a bit more flexible with the places you host and how exactly you market you site, unlike the sites like Wix or SquareSpace.

WordPress also makes it extremely easy to manage any leads, integrate new plug ins and really add valuable features to your site.

Here is an example of breakdown costs:

Wordpress Theme: $5-$50 (One time)

Hosting from HostGator: $5-10/mo

Domain name - Namecheap: $14/yr

Custom email address - Google Apps; $5/mo.

MailChimp - to collect the emails and allow you to send out emails to a mass audience: $10/mo. or FREE

You of course don't have to do everything here, but it's a good example of the costs. Time to create depends on what you want, but normally it'll be 5-10 hours.

@Joshua Dorkin, I have been running into similar issues but mine are on and off as of late. It seems to really just depend on the form post that i'm going to.

Ones that i have been to before still seem to load the ads, but new posts I've never looked at don't load ads.

Just figured I'd give you some heads up, so you guys can look into that!

I just wanted to chime in here really quick. It seems for me to be an issues with the ads on the top and right side. I load a post, the ads fail to load properly and cause the page to lock up. This happens on all my devices except my phone, and it happens no matter what my internet connection is. I've tried at work, home, school and everywhere in between with the same issue.

Now, when you disable ads the site works perfectly - I only did this to test it because i know you guys need them to make a little money. (:

@Steve Vaughan They don't exactly get hotter in the sun. It all depends on the color of the roof. We got a light gray roof installed and it actually cools the house much better than a shingle roof does. I forget the exact term, but since we have the metal roof our electric company gives us a kickback every month because we are energy efficient in choosing the color.

Our house on a 100 degree day will stay an easy 78 with out air running, and that has mild tree coverage.
