Post: RV / Tiny Home Parks in Texas

Can an unrestricted AG zoned be used for RV /tiny home park in Houston, Austin and Dallas? Any pockets of smaller cities are more friendly to have that kind of setup?

I'm debating with myself whether I should buy a piece of AG land and build with whatever I want (possibly expand it later for some rental income) or getting a typical 3/2 house near a city. I would like to know pros and cons in the three big cities, Austin, Houston, and Dallas and their surrounding areas. Thanks.

@Bruce Lynn I used to fly small planes and might get one for personal/business use in the near future. I like those hangar homes that have a very large man cave in the front part of the living area which I could use it as a workshop and other things and the living quarters are in the back with an extended patio behind the building. I just thought the layout seems more practical for me compared to regular stick built 3/2 houses. I also agree with those restrictions with gate codes and other pilot neighbors might not like non-aviation visitors to come in, etc.

Anyone who had experience living and investing in one of those "barndominium" which is usually in an airpark (mostly in Texas)? How energy efficient are they? How good can they keep their values (regardless of location)?

@Zach Cummins how about tenant owned mobile homes or RVs? Is it easy just to have them towed without going through evictions?

I would like to get some general idea about investing a RV park but operated like a mobile home park in Texas. I know it’s a huge state but I would like get a good sense in different regions, big cities and tourist destinations. My goal is not to run it like a hospitality kind of business with different campers come and go everyday but at least month-to-month with consistent tenants with constant cash flow. If they don’t pay rents then I could potentially have their homes towed away without going through the eviction process.

CA has passed a bill to protect tenants so they don’t need to pay rents until 2026. I wonder if it would make a difference with tenant owned mobile homes and RVs. I’m also thinking to investing in Texas.

@Ben Leybovich what’s the general idea of the property tax rates over there?
