@Daulton H. my strategy was to have that as the face of the management side. My properties by themselves would be owned by separate LLCs. So basically Handel Housing would be the property manager, not the owner. I still have much to learn as far as corporations go I'm finding out. I don't know what I would make Handel Housing. LLC, S-corp, something different? In a general sense, could that still work for me do you think? The whole idea behind having my name as part of the company was like my "guarantee" to not be a slum lord and take care of the property and be fair. I care about my name and my thought was that I could convey to others that I'll take care of the property because my name is on the line. My mom has been in the business for over 40 years and has told me several times that in general, the good tenants stay with the ones that take care of the property. Now I know that isn't even really going to matter in the beginning because I won't have a large enough supply and people won't even know who I am, but I like to think long term. Eventually, I want to get into apartment complexes and I thought I should start building on that reputation with my first unit. Plus when I do get to that size I want to have a website to handle complaints, repairs, applications, etc more efficiently, and I'll need some kind of name to put on the website. What are your thoughts?

Well, I am a Fort Wayne local. I am new to the landlord scene, so I can't exactly give you the best "analysis" but I can say there is a high demand for rentals in general. (at least that's what I've been told by local investors)I'm in a Fort Wayne landlording group on facebook and I would recommend looking them up. A lot of the guys on there are very knowledgeable of the area and give you a much better idea on the specifics that you're looking for. As for tourism, unless there's something I'm missing about Fort Wayne, I can't see why someone would really want to come here for a vacation lol

@Steve Vaughan thank you for explaining to me what you do.  I will definitely be taking all that into consideration for myself.

@Steve Vaughan that is basically exactly what I was thinking. Have my properties in LLCs and then have some kind of business that would be the face for everything and manage everything as well. Something to give me credibility and look more professional. My target audience is really everyone I guess. Tenants at first, but as I grow and look to partner in the future it would be for investors if that makes sense.

@Caleb Heimsoth thank you for the reply. I'll be giving that some thought for sure then!

Hello everyone!

I've been watching podcasts and reading books from BP for a few months now and finally decided to sign up on here and start networking with others. I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana so if there are any locals or other investors in general, I would love to hear from you guys.

Currently, I do not own any property. I aim to change that soon though. I am in the midst of networking with locals in my area via Facebook and trying to build my own "team". I'm looking at property and meeting bankers to work out how I'll finance my first deal. I believe small multi-families is where I want to start.

I look forward to meeting you guys. Thank you.

Recently I posted a forum asking others for their opinion on a business name I had in mind. Most everyone said I was wasting my time. While I appreciate the honesty from everyone, it left me with another question. What is the purpose of Brandon Turner's Open Door Properties LLC? In one of his books, he mentioned how having a business card can help make you look more professional to others. I think in a podcast I heard him mention it being the face of his business for the management side. I'm not 100% sure. This is what made me start thinking of different business name ideas though. Could someone please clarify for me what exactly his name is for because based on the feedback I got from everyone on my previous post, I think I was mistaken on what he has it for. Thank you all for your help.

I wouldn’t care at all about it. Just easy to identify you if they’re janky.

Well I'll need some kind of name for an llc. In his books Brandon talks about having a business card and how it can help your image and make you appear more professional to others. Even he has a name for his, Open Door Properties.

I’d dive right in and worry about branding a little later on.

Thank you for reply! I am looking to own my own rentals. I'm multitasking and trying to work on everything at one time. Branding is just a small part of what I'm doing and only because I thought it might make me seem more professional to others. I appreciate you taking your time out to give me your thoughts!
