Hi,

I am excited to be Jumping back in here and dive into REI and connect with other members here. My wife and I live in Santa Barbara, CA and love spending time outside in this beautiful city.

Hi Nate! Welcome to the BP community! Always great to see fellow SB folks. Curious if you are looking to invest locally or in other markets?

I run the local meetup. Our next event is this Thursday and would be fun to have you join if you can. There is an event page for it here on BP if you search 93101. If you’re interested in being on the list for future meetup notifications, send me a DM with your email. We have a great group!

Daniel and @Alan Siebenaler, have you two met? If not, you should.  Maybe this Thursday 8/15 at the meetup ;-)?

Hi Lindsey - I am also in SB and host the local meetup. Investing in SB is challenging, but it certainly can payoff massively if done right. Just takes creativity and persistence.  I am always excited to meet others who as excited about making it work as I am.  Would love to have you join the meetup if you are interested. We have a great group of people, including a few of the others who have already responded to this thread.  The next meetup is this Thursday (8/15).  Ill be posting the info right after I send this reply, so look for it under Events. Also DM me your email if you would like to be included on future notifications.  Either way, I am always interested in talking real estate with other investors, especially locals.  Hope to see you soon.

The 37th Santa Barbara Real Estate Investor Meetup will take place at Third Window Brewing Co. on Thursday, August 15th from 6-8pm. We will be in the front patio area across from the bar. Look for the sign similar to the above banner and call/text me (Baird) at 805-705-5667 or Val at 805-215-6733 if you are having trouble finding the group.

We are a group of real estate investors of all experience levels who get together each month to share stories, experiences, leads, etc. Whether you have only started dreaming of your first property, or just closed on your 100th; whether you invest out of state, or keep it local, we look forward to having you join.

We kick the evening off with quick group introductions, so be ready to tell the group one thing you are seeking and one area where you can provide value (everyone has something to give).

RSVP here AND post a response if you plan on joining so we know who to look out for and to help promote the event. Call/text Baird at 805-705-5667 or Val at 805-215-6733 if you have any questions.

NOTE: If you would like to be included on the list to receive future invitations via email, please direct message me your email address and keep an eye out for emails from [email protected].

Hi @Cyndi Lees.  I invest in Santa Barbara and Ventura and it has worked out great for me.  The key is to get creative.  You definitely aren't going to have a great predictable return, especially in the short term, if you try to invest turnkey; at least at the single family and small multi-family level.  My properties are small multifamily and to-date they have generated between 50 and 60% internal rates of return for the past four years.  I will say that these IRRs do not take my and my wife's time and sweat into account.  We have worked very hard to get these numbers, but we love doing it.

I also run the local REI meetup. Would love to have you join. Third Thursday of every month. Shoot me a message if you are interested.

Hi Baird,

Did you happen to figure out this situation? I’m in a similar one myself.

Hey Alexander. Yes we did. We ended up going back to Proper. They had rejected us the first go around, but we had no problem with them the second time. Didn’t get a great answer as to why it didn’t work in round 1. The rep who helped us the second time said it should have gone through. Definitely an argument against stopping just because one person says ‘no’.

Hmm interesting! They rejected me already because of a high fire hazard but I’ll try them again.

Definitely worth a shot. I think they cited fire for us initially as well.  Good luck!
