Hello Everyone!

This might be a silly question but I’ve been looking at many properties on Zillow, Homesnap, Realtor, etc. and when it comes to looking at the property taxes (I know I should be more thorough but for now is a rough estimate) I see that they usually give a “tax assessed value” for the home. What does this mean? How does whoever arrive at that number? Should I care about it? Any input is welcome. Thank you!

@Russell Brazil what do you think of Silver Spring, Wheaton, Glenmont, Rockville, or Kensington for a BRRRR?

Hi! I am also in the dmv area! I would suggest you read J Scott’s book on estimating rehab costs. Maybe that works in DC.

Hello guys! I am a first time home buyer and want to BRRRR and house hack my first property. I live in Silver Spring, MD (part of the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metro area) and have been looking for lenders with the best interest rates and reviews. I will definitely do my due diligence calling up several banks and credit unions but if anyone wants to share his/her preferred bank/credit union/lender, I would appreciate it very much!

@Jessyca Jones I am beginning my REÍ career as well as I have read Brandon Turner’s book, “The book on rental property investing” and I LOVE it! He writes very illustratively and talks about everything you need to know to get into rental property investing: from how to choose and analyze a deal to how to deal with tenants once you have them. I am now reading, “The book on estimating rehab costs” by J Scott and it’s also interesting to start thinking about all the components of a house that can be changed/fixed when buying a house and for selling a house. Let me know if what you get next!

@Chris Seveney Thank you for your response! Maybe I should have listed some information about me. I have a stable job. Good income. Great credit. I am part of the NIH credit union already. But I have seen many posts about local banks giving the best rates and being instrumental in your deals and I just wanted to find out if anyone was using anyone in particular. I have looked at navy federal and compared it with my credit union but besides comparing rates, I don't know how else I can compare them online. Do you have any preference?
