@Annette A. Here is the challenge: if it's true that we are all the average of the five (5) people whom we are in the contact with (and I agree with that) we must be vigilant and consciously decide who we are surrounded by, whether family, workmates or friends.
You can't pick your family, but you can limit exposure to negative family members. You get to pick your friends and choose your employment. If self-employed as an entrepreneur, you get to decide who works with you.
Same with customers / clients. Amazingly, I decided to stop meeting clients in person in 1996 and have devised ways to be more efficient and effective yet keeping direct contact unnecessary. This is useful given that many (if not most) of my clients are pretty darn negative.
Don't waste your time trying to change people. Be an example, perhaps, but recognize that human nature is more powerful than personal charisma.
Ultimately, only you are in charge of what goes on in your own head! And you also give yourself permission to eliminate the negative influences from your environment.
Lastly, be grateful that you recognize who can do something about your attitude and your actions.
Rick thank you for sure for those words. aint it the truth.. we cant pick family but we can pick those we work with or for us. So i need to increase my postitive people that i hear on a daily basis. Its so sad but the VAST majority of people i know ARE negative and STUiCK in the rut of life. I need to locate an investors group and similiar groups here in Maine that i can occational bounce off of, and maybe build some business connections. and i can increase my postitive with "HEARING" through reading, video's, audio.
one of the greatest steps to a new life is to be able to recognize that one CAN change their thinking, thereby one CAN change their lives. the part about "dont waste your time trying to change people." and...
"Ultimately, only you are in charge of what goes on in your own head! And you also give yourself permission to eliminate the negative influences from your environment."
GREAT advice. :)
