What's old is new again. Canadian title fraud
This erroneous description of title fraud has always annoyed me. As described in the body of the article, no property owner lost title to their home. The title insurers paid the purchasers, who were the victims of the fraud not the homeowners, the amount of their loss up to the amount of their policies. it's interesting the GTA is suffering from this fraud when I handled dozens of the exact same type of fraud going back to 1991 and I know for a fact Stewart Title and Chicago Title (now owned by Fidelity National Title) both suffered from the same fraud then. Why it's portrayed as some newly created scheme I don't understand.

i would think in CA this is harder than in the US.. because Notary in CA and many other countries is much more qualified than in the US were its a basic test and anyone can become a notary basically. Other countries Notaries act almost with the power of a lawyer in reviewing your docs etc. At least that was my experience buying selling and loaning money in British Columbia.
The ability to do these things in the US is so very simple compared.. The deterrent of course is criminal charges.
