Nearly a year ago, right before my 23rd birthday and months before graduating college, I decided I wanted to be a real estate investor. I stumbled across Brandon Turner's blog "Real Estate Investing in Your Twenties". I began emailing Brandon about a book he recommended on his blog "Investing in Duplexes, Triplexes, and Quads" by Larry B. Loftis. After reading that book, I was committed to getting an investment property. I then received an email from Brandon about biggerpockets. I spent hours on the BP forum and listened to dang near every BP podcast. I worked full time and found a mentor who allowed me to work on rehabbing his units on the weekend. After nine months in the market, walking from multiple contracts, having a car drive through a property during option, and losing my funding at the end of 2013...I closed on my first duplex today in Dallas, TX. The duplex is located in the Bishop Arts District of North Oak Cliff. I closed 23 days before my 24th birthday. I have been a fly on the wall, but I could not have done it without biggerpockets. It kept me motivated and focused. I am very thankful for everyone in the BP community. Excited for the next part of this journey. -Sam White
