Is Social Media Worth It?

Is social media worth it? I am about done with a 6 month period of being off of my social media sites, Facebook, LinkedIn, NextDoor, etc, and I don't know if I will return. I am leaning toward the "Delete" feature for everything but Bigger Pockets and one other site. The only reason I stay here is that this site is targeted and specific and isn't a whirlwind of the world's or peoples problems. Will this be a mistake?

Personally, I am a pessimistic person, and I have been way happier since my sabbatical. The only concern I have is fear of missing out, the great real estate deal on Facebook etc.... Am I missing out by deleting most of my social media? Any thoughts that people have would greatly help me.

FoMO. Fear of Missing Out.

I have been on Social Media since 1982. I was paid to be online then as part of a wider job. I was a beta tester for LinkedIn as a friend is a co-founder. He ran the user experience at the time.

Grant Cardone just raised $45M and attributes it to SM. Granted, he would say that on SM.

More important to me about your question is your mental state. If you are happier being off SM and you do not find it useful, move on. Life is too short to do everything. You could partner with someone else who uses SM well. They would be promoting JVs or similar so you could remain off the radar and free of the SM responsibilities.

How do you make your money? What is your passion? That is where you should focus. There are many things you are missing out on. It has been that way your whole life. The same for everyone. I live in London. When I am in London, I am not able to take part in the stuff in SD. So, I am missing out on all the things happening around where you are. I am OK with that. Likely you are OK with missing out on the stuff in London.

When a person says yes to marriage, they are effectively saying no to 3.5 billion other possibilities. We sample next to no one, make a choice and get on with it. FoMO in the extreme. Yet it works pretty well for many folks.
