Is blogging worth it?

Question

Hello,

I am just wondering how any of you fellow real estate agents feel about blogging in terms of building your business and obtaining leads? Have you had much success with your blogs? What are your favorite blog sites? I appreciate the discussion.

Hi Raymond,

When it comes to blogging, I think different people have different goals in mind. I guess, it really depends on each particular blogger and what they are trying to accomplish. In the beginning, it's best to determine your goals for the blog and figure out how your voice and/or message can best serve your target audience. Hope that helps!

I think blogging is definitely a good thing to do if you have the time while building your business. It gives you a web presence and it will only continue to become more popular with the way technology is changing the business. I think when you are starting your blog you need to define what niche your blog is going to be focused on. One thing I think is important is to make your blog fun to read. There are too many boring blogs out there and remember building your blog is a process that does not happen overnight. You have gotta have your social media working hard for you and really network online to start to create a presence

ooh, I'm glad you asked this because if you ask me it seems like most people that blog want to sell you something. There are a few exceptions to this that I've seen, but rare. Real Estate Blogging only seems to have two categories...trying to help people so you can sell them something, and telling people all about your stuff or articles and such that can be so specialized to the area or topic that it may be of no help to the reader. 
The BP Blog might be one of the best exceptions to this because it has many contributors and so it seems there's always good information to find without the feeling or idea that there's ulterior motives.

I would like to add that I find very helpful information on blogs and always take note of the author. For one, I want to look into them and see how qualified they are. Two, if I like their viewpoint on a certain idea or philosophy I often "follow" them. Blogging cannot hurt your cause.

Yes. Blogging is helpful. People want to read information on the internet.  Real helpful information that directly pertains to what they are seeking knowledge on.  So, if you provide the solution to their problem or answer to their question they will respect that and perhaps even bookmark your site.

The more quality content you have that is well optimized in the search engines will result if more traffic.

Keep in mind that some people don't want the "sale" shoved in their face. They want to find it.   As they nibble on your content and it satisfies them they will work their way over to your sales page or offer.  Than, they might bite.

Why wouldn't you? Mine is getting a MAJOR overhaul pretty soon. There are plenty of blogging platforms out there, however there are two that come to mind that I think you should be using as an agent. Your blog should also answer the main question on people's mind: "How is the market where I live", be sure not to use alot of "Agent speak" and be consistent. Just started my blog site, (it is my favorite! LOL) I cant put the link in here or it will get flagged, but it is in my signature. Anyhow, I am really getting a lot out of it. My ultimate goal is to monetize it with affiliate links and sell info on there, but for now it is really doin a lot for me in my local market. In the last week, I have had 2 people walk up to me in public and address me as Rob The House Guy! This is directly because of my blog. I do a lot of videos and post them, so when I post, I throw them out onto social media.  I am gaining a ton of top of the mind awareness for when people are thinking of doing ANYTHING in real estate, they will think of me. Good luck!

There is no law that says you only have to have one website/blog.  You can have a number of blogs that from your perspective are all "your blog" but from the readers perspective are all highly specialized expert sites.  
They can also all link to one another or link straight to your home site.  They can even share web design costs if you want them to have one look to help create a brand.

Raymond - As Joel indicated, your site is loading very slowly.  I tried on 2 occasions to visit, but after waiting an astounding 1 minute each time, I left.  Normally, I'll give a page 10 seconds or so at most, but anything more and you're going to lose a user.  I hope you get it corrected!
