Moving my family to Austin. Please help.

My wife and two small children are most likely moving to Austin from DFW here in the next year. Other than having visited a few times, I have no familiarity with the local markets and where to find deals. I mostly look for 3/2/2 SFR's that are valued around 200k or less. That's pretty prevalent in the Metroplex, however, I've heard the Austin area is so much more expensive. Is it more difficult to find deals? Would somebody help get me started as far as where I need to research?

Also, I'd love to find an REI group to get involved in when we do make the move. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

Because of the traffic, you’re going to need to figure out where you want to live.  And I’m assuming that decision will be based more on schools and where you will work. Because living in Round Rock and having to drive for work in South Austin will be a beating  of a drive!  For the price range, they are out there but you will be very limited to proximity to great schools and work.
