Whats a REIA without RE?

Okay I'm venting here so bear with me.
I am a member of a local REIA that I think is very good. Great networking ,great topics, and the guys who run it are professional knowledgable, and very helpful. So I decide to broaden my horizons and check out another REIA in my area.No such thing as too many contacts in this biz right?
What I unknowingly walked into was a late night infomercial. That's right this was nothing more than a 1.5 hour sales pitch by a couple of guy from Phoenix that the guy running the meeting knows and apparently does business with.
The first pitch was for a credit repair/monitoring "system" you can try to sell to your tenants and or un-qualified buyers of your properties. You could make the stretch that this relates to REI if you plan to spend a lot of time nurturing people until they can buy your property. The residual income comes from the monthly fee the deadbeats are supposed to pay. Good Luck
Pitch #2 was for VIDEO PHONES!!!! Thats right-- absolutely nothing to do with REI. See in this scenario you sign people up for the different services and then you get a % based on their monthly bill . But wait! theres more, Those peeps then go out and sign people up and start getting a % which you then get a % and so on . See where this is going? Kind of like those funny things the Egyptians built only turned upside down.
There was next to nothing related to R.E. in this meeting. Most of the people didn't even act like they knew eachother. I sat thru the entire thing because I thought there had to be some networking or something to follow. But alas there was only the back table where you can part with your money for a book a website and a phone # to your personal coach.
