My name is Sheree, my husband and I currently own a duplex near Milwaukee and a side-by-side in Green Bay but would love to acquire more rental properties. I am looking into taking realtor classes and he would like to flip houses full time; he is currently a licensed electrician but very handy and can do pretty much all the work himself. We are both a bit new to this, besides being landlords for almost 5 years now, so we want to learn as much as we can!

Choose your brokerage wisely depending on your goals! Shorewest is a relativley small and local brokerage with focus on retail, pretty old school, that's where the money is. Investing is the last thing you may hear there, and they are certainly not the only one with that flavor!

Getting licensed is IMO a distraction for most investors; evident by how little 97% of agents know about investing. I know this is counter intuitive, but you would be surprised how many agents don't even own their own home, let alone rental properties.

For what you describe I think you should talk to Jodi Graf at Premier Point, most of their agents invest or flip etc. and definitley check out the Brew City REI Group on FB!

As a newbie to this wanting to learn the lingo, the ins/outs & just more about how the business runs, where would you recommend I start out? Is there such a thing where I could be an assistant to someone (mentor) so I could have my foot in the door & be able to see/hear things to get any experience?

You can't learn how to swim until you get in the water. And just like swimming it's really more the fear than the technical skills. Quite frankly buying and renting properties is not a very difficult business. Read a few books and engage on BP; that's really all you need. If you need a little help to bridge from the books to reality check out the Brew City Training Cafe; you can engage any of us coaches on an hourly basis. As far as jobs: working for a medium sized property management company will probably give you the fastest learning curve. Also check with Jonathan from Nestegg; they are looking to hire.
