Newbie Out of State Real Estate Investor Based in San Jose, CA
Hello! My name is Nick Kenrick, I'm a mechanical engineer based in Silicon Valley. I work at a medical device company in the area. I'm in my late twenties, and I'm seeking to get the ball rolling in real estate investing.
One of my biggest hobbies and passions is musical theater, and I participate in community theaters all over the south bay and peninsula. In my absolute dream scenario, I'd have a big enough business in real estate that has enough passive income to support a more full-time dedication to theater. In this dream scenario, I have a decent house on the peninsula (which is already difficult to afford, even on an engineer's salary), I'd be living and raising a family with my lovely girlfriend Sammi (don't tell her I'm hoping to propose to her soon), and I'm regularly auditioning for professional shows up in San Francisco, and perhaps even New York occasionally.
This won't be possible without a strong strategy and focus in real-estate. I came into some inheritance this year, and for the first time in my life I decided to really educate myself about money. Upon reading David Greene's books on BRRRR and long distance real estate investing, I've decided what I've got to do: get off the bench. My hope is to get over the hump of my first deal as soon as possible. I want to begin brrrring out of state right away.
I've got experience with rentals - when growing up my parents had a condo they rented out. I was often involved with rehabbing between tenants, and I've done a lot of renting myself. I've also got a lot of experience managing big out of state projects through my job - we'll often contract out big systems we don't have the bandwidth to develop in house. I think this experience lends itself well to BRRRR. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, picking out a market, finding a good team, and plenty of growing pains. But I think this is the best way forward for me.
So that's why I'm here in a nutshell! I'm excited and very eager to learn and meet new people. Thanks for reading!
