Investor from Massachusetts - lots to learn
Hello world. Started devouring the podcasts about two months ago and can't stop. Best resource I have ever found, hands down. Thanks guys!
I am a fairly new investor, with a lot to learn. I live in one half of a two family in Somerville, MA. I also have a second two family two blocks away.
I am interested in networking with folks who do commercial and larger apartment building deals, whether that is in the Boston area or in another city.
Also happy to share my limited experience with anyone interested to learn.
My goals in real estate are to create some security and freedom through cash flow, and eventually build real wealth and a business I can use to teach my children.
Hello @John Pauler and let me be the first to welcome you to Bigger Pockets. At BP, you can get the information you need on real estate investing by taking advantage of the free online videos and courses that BP has to offer! BP also lets you network with other investors and post blogs for other people to view and read about. BP also has it's own podcast in itunes for you to listen to as well. You came to the right place and I wish you all the best.
Welcome from a fellow MA native.
Hi John,
Welcome to BP, sounds like you have a passion for it. BP is a great resource. Couple more books to add to your MF understandings.
1) Multifamily Millions (Dave Lindahl)
2) Complete Guide to Buying and Selling Apartments (Steve Berges).
Depending on your resources, if you are accredited, you could look at syndication deals. I have a couple links below that may help you think about how to get involved w/MF if you are not. Both ways you can learn a ton. Wish you the best and reach out if you want to chat about it.

Welcome to BP John, this is a great place to network and learn. Reach out to me when you have some time, I'm a RE agent in Mass and I'd be happy to help.
Hi John,
Welcome to BP from another MA investor! If you are interested in getting into larger apartment deals I would second @David Thompson's recommendation to read Multifamily Millions. It's a great book that covers a wealth of information. Dave Lindahl is a very successful investor who is also from MA and currently operates out of Rockland. I also really like Lindahl's book Emerging Real Estate Markets. Good luck! Feel free to reach out if you want to chat!

@Jack Butala, @Malik Roley - thanks for the warm welcome!
@Corey Melkonian - glad to connect. What location(s) / property type(s) / side(s) of the transaction do you specialize in?
@David Thompson, @Tory Kelliher - this is great advice. Just ordered Dave Lindahl's book and am excited to dive into this and the rest of the content shared.
It's already great to be a part of BiggerPockets!
I'm all over the place with off market deals, investments, developments in Winchester, Maynard and recently sold a 3 family in Teele Sq, I'm sure it's not too far from you. Good luck and learn as much as you can.
@Corey Melkonian - busy guy! That's great. I know Teele Sq well, great area, and not far at all. Looking forward to getting to know you, and the rest of the BP community. Feel free to reach out anytime.
Sure, sounds good. My contact information is posted on my account so reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, C
welcome to BP look forward to seeing you at a local event or 2 !
Thanks @Paul Sorgi! Any recommendations for local events you've like?
Hi John, welcome to BP.
This is a great place to learn. Make sure to listen to all the BP podcasts, read the articles on the main blog and be active in these forums to learn a ton very quickly about any topic in real estate you want to know more about.
This is also a great place to meet people that can be assets to your business. Lots of great connections all over but we also have a very strong and active contingent here in MA on here so make sure to find them (Set up some keyword alerts to find out about local topics) and get connected.
Besides doing that on here make sure to get out to some of the many local investor events we have. My favorite is the Black Diamond meeting in Waltham (alternates every other month with their Worcester location, next Waltham meeting is in July). Other ones in and around the city are The Boston Wealth Builders in the city, the Boston Area REIA in Medford and the Boston REIA in Dedham. Many other options north and south of the city as well.
Great tips @Shaun Reilly! Looking forward to attending some of these events.
Welcome @John Pauler, if you are an accredited investor, you can buy into institutional grade $50-125M projects with as little as $100,000 and diversify. Professionals with decades of experience and very impressive track records do all the heavy lifting for you. You get potential cash flow, tax shelter and appreciation. Loans are non-recourse. This is the world of Delaware Statutory Trusts.
Thanks @Leslie Pappas. Unfortunately I'm not accredited yet, but working on that!
Welcome @John Pauler!
