Hello everyone, my name is Chris Burnell. I'm an eager LSU student looking to invest in the Lafayette area. My desired niche is rental properties and I have set a goal for myself of purchasing my first property before the end of this summer. Although my major is Biological Sciences, I have a passion for business and family members in real estate guiding me in the right direction. I am however looking for a non family mentor in order to expand my horizons, gain valuable advice, and help others whenever possible. If there is anyone reading this in the Lafayette area shoot me a message! See you guys around the forums!

Sorry @Jim Struthers had to tag Jim to talk to Chris I guess:) Glad to have you on here. I'd recommend going to a meet up in your area (find them here). When you find someone that you think you could work with, invite them out for coffee and ask them if you found a deal if they'd be willing to go in with you if you give them a larger share of the profits (like 60/40) in exchange for guiding you through the parts you're unfamiliar with. You can also let them know that you're new and hungry to learn and ask them if they have anything that you can help them with (i.e. answering calls, cleaning the office) and then follow through if they take you up on it. Many investors are willing to share what they've learned, but are limited on time and looking for ways to add value always helps.

Of course, having people help you out on here also can work, but there's another suggestion if you need more. All the best!
