Newbe from Hickory, NC

I'm Bryan O'Neal and I'm a residential contractor in a really depressed market. I'm looking for any opportunity to make a better living. I've always known that real estate had multiple options for wealth  building but aside from owning a few rentals, have not done any investing. I saw one of Cody Sperber's videos and started asking some questions online about his Fast Track program which led me to BP. I would appreciate any feedback on that particular program but I sure am glad to have found this resource. As I've already been reading, marketing is key in this biz and that's probably where I need the most improvement so I'm looking forward to the positive experience I can glean from this online community. I'm looking to start out learning about Wholesaling and any other ways to begin with little or no money. I'm also an independent insurance adjuster. I believe that I can use my damage estimating and reporting skills to generate reports that buyers might be interested in to make a purchase decision with. Does that sound useful in anyone's experience? I look forward to hearing any and all input. Thanks.

Hi Bryan, and welcome to BP. I own some properties in Hickory and really like the opportunity there. It is a depressed market to an extent, but the rents are pretty good for the prices you can get houses for. There are also opportunities for flipping low end houses under $100k. As a matter fact, I am working on a flip in Newton right now. Hopefully it will sell!

Hey Bryan,

Not familiar with Sperber's videos but there are so many out there... I've found you learn a little bit from everyone, whether video's, online information/webinars, networking and on this forum which I also recently joined.

I'm looking now in the Hickory area and there is opportunity here with the market coming back as a wholesaler, flipper, and buy n hold.

Let me know if you want to connect sometime.

-Joe

Welcome to Biggerpocket!

We are also buy and hold investors. The awesome thing about Biggerpockets is there is tons of different thoughts and perspectives.

Definitely check out the blogs, podcast and forums. Another great source of information is individual blogs found in peoples signatures. Many of us including myself write about our niche. The only thing we all agree about is investing in Real Estate. Beyond that there are many different style and types of investing. My blog/website is about long distance self management, landlording, investing in class A investments, investing in a transient lifestyle, etc.

Look forward to seeing you around!

I think Hickory, NC is starting to do well with technology and many "green" related companies as well. I have an apartment complex there and feel the market can only get stronger. Happy to compare notes with any others interested in the Catawba County NC market......

Bryan welcome and I am just down the road from you. Not sure who Cody Sperbers is. This site alone on BP is a great resource for folks. Education is huge , getting to local meeting is another plus.

Yes Marketing and networking is the key to this business.

Agree the damage estimating could come in handy depending on what you want to accomplish

I would love to connect with my Catawba county people. I am new to the area, studying to get my real estate license but I have time during the week to meet up. I would love to be an extra pair of hands for someone so I could learn.
