Newb from Whidbey Island, WA
Hello Bigger Pockets. My name is Tyler. I am currently stationed in Oak Harbor, WA. My experience is fairly limited, and my first deal was just completed. I purchased a foreclosure that was listed on the market. I purchased with a VA loan (zero down). My goal, on this website and off, is to learn as much as I can. I have been searching for a mentor of some kind in my local area and am having no luck. This resource is invaluable and I thank everyone for contributing.
Hey @Tyler Kaye ! Man Thanks for serving our country that's awesome!
I wrote a post not to long ago about finding a mentor maybe it could help you out: http://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2014/04/16/finding-mentor-real-estate/
Also a tip: be sure to set up your key word alerts for your local market, that's one of the best ways to find someone on here that could become a potential mentor. Once you see they're active and experienced on the site you could send them a colleague request, and then take them out to grab coffee and see if you two could be a fit.
If you ever have any questions let me know, I'm happy to help!
Thank you so much for the reply. I will most certainly do that.

Hey @Tyler Kaye thanks for introducing yourself! It's great to have you here! Don't miss The BiggerPockets Podcast - they are great for learning how others are finding success.
Oh - and be sure to set up some Keyword Alerts- especially for "Oak Harbor" so you'll be notified when people mention it here in the forums.
Thanks again for introducing yourself!
Welcome to BP.
There was a podcast about an investor who worked Whidbey Island. It was probably 10-15 podcasts back from the current one. @Brandon Turner could probaly name it for you.

Sounds good @Tyler Kaye ! Hey, how far of a drive are you to Olympia? We are thinking of having a meetup soon. I'd like to do a big one in Seattle soon, but maybe we'll do one down near Oly also. Thoughts? Be sure to set up keyword alerts for "Seattle" and "Olympia" and such also :)
@Brandon Turner I would make the drive either way. Olympia is probably around 3 hours, and Seattle is about 2 depending on traffic.
Welcome to BP Tyler!
First, to echo Jaren's sentiments...Thank You for your service.
We are in Auburn and invest primarily in King & Pierce Counties. I look forward to meeting you at a meet up in Olympia, Seattle, or wherever we can finally put something together.
welcome to the forums tyler!
Welcome to BP. We're down in Kirkland. Your first deal was a foreclosure - it's a good way to get involved and learn the ropes. We bought some foreclosures and short sales during the downturn and have them rented out. Check the "Learn" tab along he blue border up top. Good luck and see you around the forums
Welcome to BP @Tyler Kaye

@Paul T. I most certainly will. I listened to the podcast yesterday. You couldn't have explained the housing in the area any better.

@Paul Tschetter loves coffee, I'm sure :) (Just tagging him, since your @mention didn't seem to work!)
@Tyler Kaye Coffee is good. WiFire in Freeland is my spot so let me know if/when you want to grab a coffee.
