Yucca Valley, CA Short Term Rental
Hey all, My husband and I are in escrow on a place in Yucca Valley, CA (just west of Joshua Tree) that we plan on STRing. Has anyone submitted an application here recently? Or been approved? I'm looking over the application now and it is shockingly thorough (see the list of submittal requirements below - eek!).
@Blaine Suque
Apply now! We just got our permit on December 23 and we submitted October 25. They are way behind, so get your application submitted. It is pretty through, so there are several steps you need to take before you submit. You will see these as you make your way through the process. They are a big stickler on the nuisance plan section as there is quite of bit of pushback from the community lately regarding STR. Feel free to reach out with questions about the permit, it's fresh in our minds. :)
We just created a group on Facebook called Joshua Tree investors from Los Angeles. Even if you aren’t in LA, please join to chat all things Airbnb! We just put our Airbnb listing up on the 23rd and are booked through the end of the year!
@Ashley Keeler thanks for the info! Did they come out and do an inspection? We are planning to tear down a wall that needs a permit to do so and we want to make sure we have all the proper permits if they inspect.
@Blaine Suque
We were worried about the same thing which is why we waited. They didn't come inspect. However, we also didn't do any construction that required permitting. I would still apply for the STR permit and if it comes up, say you are waiting on that permit as well. But they didn't come to our house at all.
They did require a zoom meeting with the director, however. Due to our nuisance plan. They are really, really big on that now. They want to make sure you aren’t disturbing the community.
@Blaine Suque
Is your property under Town of Yucca Valley jurisdiction or San Bernardino County jurisdiction? If under SB county, they will come and do a physical inspection.

Personally, I would operate under the assumption that they will do a physical inspection, especially since they are clamping down on STRs operating outside of the ordinance and taking extra care to ensure that all permitted STRs going forward are operating within the ordinance.
Has anyone here installed a above ground hot tub 220v in yucca valley? If so, how much did the permit cost you? Really considering if the costs will be worth the luxury of a hot tub at this point.
Also looking at getting 220 run outside to put in a hot tub. I assume it's a big selling point in the winter months but would be interested to hear opinions on it.
Average quote in the are is about $1500 to install a spa panel. I have an appointment with the city tuesday to get an idea on the permit cost. will update then
Hi, I'm new to the short-term rental world. I used to rent my property via regular annual terms. But an experience with a tenant has left me leaving my property vacant for 2 years. I would love to try short-term rentals.
I'm trying to fill out the STVR application for Yucca Valley and some sections were a little confusing for me. I've called the number listed on the application but received no answers just voice-mails with no callbacks.
For example, it said something about a notarized statement. Does anyone know what has to be notarized?
Also said that there needs to be a business registration application and a transient occupancy tax permit application. I've been searching for this particular application but could only find the form for tax purposes.
I'm thinking about creating an LLC. But the CA government website is down online applications. Should I create an LLC before filling out and submitting the application?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm am going through the process right now with a property in Yucca Valley. So far my application has been bounced back twice. Making future city appointments are 2 months out. The biggest headache is not getting a uniformed answer about particulars such as hot tub, pool placements.
My advice is be very thorough in your application and call them frequently for any questions.
Good Luck!

Hi Jonathan, looks like you're from Bellflower, I spent a lot of my younger years at cruthers skatepark on the riverbed. Anyways, are you inquiring about pool / spa permits simultaneously? I have my STR permit meeting coming up soon. I just finished my permit for my above ground hot tub in yucca valley and it was very straight forward. You need to ask the city to give you a print out of your setbacks on your property, usually 15ft from the property line side to side, and 25ft front or rear. Make a simple quick plot plan that shows your project plan with a couple copies and you should be good. Your electrician should be able to handle the 240V hook up to make it to code. Hope this helps!
