air bnb bust
I’ve been hearing some chatter about large hotel chains lobbying significant funds to push for regulations or outright bans on short-term rentals like Airbnb. As someone actively investing in STRs and looking to scale, this raises some concerns for me about the long-term viability of this strategy.
I understand the tension between hotels and STRs, especially in popular tourist destinations, but I’m curious:
- How real is this threat? Are there specific cities or states where this lobbying is already having an impact?
- What can we as investors do to protect our investments? Are there strategies or steps to mitigate the risk of new regulations?
- Is anyone here adjusting their investment strategy because of this?
I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially if you've seen these challenges in your market or have insights into how STR investors can navigate this potential shift.

A good mix of LTR'S is a very good idea so that all your eggs aren't in the STR basket.
I like tourist destinations where STR'S are heavily ingrained and almost impossible to ban or regulate out of existence.
