STR Alexa Integration for STR Help

Shawn Suarez
Posted

Hoping to get suggestions on how to setup Alexa to control smart devices in our STR.

We'd like to create a new Amazon account and setup Alexa to control our smart home devices (lock, cameras, thermostat, etc.) but the problem I am running into is that to create a new account you have to have an email address and phone number that is not already tied to an existing Amazon account. New email is easy enough to setup but phone number is not. Does anyone have any suggestions on how they setup their STR Alexa integrations while keeping it separate from their primary residence?

Hey @Shawn Suarez, so I was going to put an Echo in our STR, but so many other hosts have said it is a bad idea. People believe that they are being spied on. Now there are ways to lock down Alexa, but no one will be happy. I just wanted to provide a way to stream music and provide a Bluetooth music player.

You might want to re-think this project.
