Scariest objects found in a property.
This past week when checking on something in the attic of one of our active rehabs, our handyman gave us a call explaining how he had found some pretty disturbing items. When he had been in there a month prior, the place was clean but on that day he found a sleeping bag, some snacks, some meds (not the legal kind), and a two-foot-long machete laid outright by the entrance. one of our Project managers (who is a young woman) had been in the house by herself several times in the weeks prior. The Sleeping bags and meds are sketchy enough, but the machete!!!
New security measures were put in place and the sword was disposed of, but this got me curious about what kind of other scary stuff has been found in rental properties and what steps were taken in response.
So let's hear who has also found some shady/illegal/lethal items in their properties.

I just had a wholesaler who went through one of mine and they found a CORPSE in the basement.. I wondered why the place stunk so bad. They called the cops Coroner came I kind of thought someone would call me but no one ever did this was in the mid west and of course I am 2k miles away.
I have bought all manner of hoarder houses.
one i did a few years ago had a pet boa and that thing got loose and we never did find it.. the city wanted me to tell all the neighbors to watch their cats and small dogs..
had another one were the guy dismantled a chevy then put it back together in the basement.. so i had to demo the house and lift it out with a excavator..
And well just the typical piles of junk.. another one that comes to mind was a house full of dog do but it had been there so long it no longer smelled horrid but it still stank.
you deal in distressed assets long enough you will see stuff.
Lastly you just wonder how the people live in these houses that are full of mold stink rats etc. but they do and they don't get sick.
then you get a retail buyer who finds a spot of mold the size of a quarter and wants a full blown remediation.. LOL when some Clorox and a few cloths and its gone.
