Duplex with shared electrical/water meter

Alex Bello
Posted

Hello all,

Recently finished BRRRR on a duplex in S Florida. Eventually I will go through the process of updating the zoning to duplex and will then be able to call power company for separate meters.

Meanwhile, I have a 3/1 (1300sqft) with adjacent 1/1 (400sqft). Tenants will be sharing 1 power meter. Note there is a washer/dryer on the premise that both tenants will be using and consuming power from.

Any ideas on managing the power bill in such case? Or other recommendations. Thanks.

3 meters. One for each unit and one for the common areas that you pay.
