Tenant got arrested while we were in the middle of eviction.

I have squatters who broke into my house in December 2017. I called the cops, but the cops didn’t help. They said I should go to housing court. This is queens ny. So I hired a lawyer to do the paperwork and represent me in court. The first time we went to court the judge adjourned the case because the squatters didn’t have a lawyer. We went back to court after 2 weeks and the squatters didn’t show up but their said he got arrested he is in jail. We have been going to court in and out every 2 weeks and nothing is happening. My lawyer is saying he can’t settle the case because the squatter is in jail. We went to court 8 different times and the judge is keeping on adjoining the case. What Should I do in this situation? Can anyone help me with ideas. The judge is saying we can’t settle the case because the squatter is in jail. I feel like changing the lawyer. What is the way out? The squatter got arrested after we started the case.
