Roommates -- do both get a renter's insurance policy?

Hello, I'm an infrequent landlord, and have never had roommates (med students) as tenants, so am unsure what this answer is. We are currently showing the place to them, and they would like to apply. SO: My lease has the usual "must maintain a renters policy with $x level of liability bla bla bla". What I have just now thought of is how this should be handled by two roommates who are not related. Do they each purchase their own policy for themselves with the liability coverage level we've requested? Sorry to be thick. I've just never had to consider this. If it matters, it's a SFH, not a condo. Many thanks in advance for your advice!

as everyone said each tenant has to have a policy. Also make sure that you are listed on the insurance as an interested party so in the event something happens or they stop paying for the insurance they notify you about it.
