How do I get started on Note Investing?

Hi Everyone! I am very new to real estate investing and, through my research just, learn about note investing here in the BiggerPockets community! I would love to learn more about the subject from someone who is currently  well verse in the field. I have a couple of general questions regarding great places to find good deals on notes and how they evaluate which market to get into. I am looking to start out in the Glendale, CA area and I also have a lot of knowledge on the New York City area, where I grew up.

I do not have a lot of funds (just $15K to get started) but I do have a lot of time to invest since I am hoping to start doing this full time.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

@Colin B. Thank you for the suggestion! I am actually in the middle of ordering the book as we speak! I see you are from the astoria area, that's where I currently live now. What has been your experience with investing in the NYC market (if you have) and have you had a positive experience investing in notes? What are some of the best forums you use to stay connected to the community of note investors out there?

While we avoid NY Notes like the plague, when they are performing they are as good as any other. Its when they stop paying you have the most expensive & longest foreclosure times, so you might not limit yourself to NY...

Also Papersource University Online has a free training class, and Donna Bauer has a low priced, very comprehensive training program also.  Good luck and welcome to the note world!
