Which Podcasts do you recommend?
Hey BP!
Prospective investor here. I'm right at the beginning of my journey in REI! I've gotten some great advice so far and am thrilled to have you all as a resource. One of the best pieces of advice I have gotten so far is to educate myself! I'm currently enrolled in RE courses and will be a licensed agent within the next two months. I plan to couple my license with my investing prowess in order to grow my business and brand. I've heard the podcasts are great and I plan on listening to plenty of them on my commute from San Mateo to San Francisco. My question is: Which podcasts do you recommend beginners/someone in my particular position to listen to? General favorites would be appreciated as well. Thanks everyone!
I highly recommend Dave Ramsey podcasts helped me so much get my spending habits on track and understand my potential to save money
I also recommend listening to The Dave Ramsey show. Dave's principles are great for getting your personal finances on track. When your personal finances are on track, you will be less stressed when working on your business finances. Warning though: Dave only recommends purchasing real estate using the 100% cash down payment method. Unless your 'pockets' are already 'big', this is pretty hard to do. If you adopt Dave Ramsey's principles for your personal finances and Robert Kiyosaki's principles for your business finances, you'll get yourself into a good place!
Welcome to BP, brother!
Check out BP podcast #11
@Zach Hubert-Allen, I'm going to throw in another vote for The BiggerPockets Podcast. We've got 191 episodes, so it should keep you busy for a few days...
Zach Hubert-Allen another vote for bigger pockets podcast. So much info!
All of them! So many gold nuggets in each and everyone one I've been listening to so far. I'm a BP newbie as well and have been burning through 8-10 a day!
Listen to the BP podcasts.
Many times, trying to educate yourself too much is a crutch and since you're never going to know everything, gives you a reason to delay making investments. Analysis paralysis.
For instance, are you getting your RE license because you truly enjoy selling RE? Are you the type who likes sales?
If you love selling, great. More power to you. But if you're getting your RE license because you want to be an investor, I'm not sure that may be the best move. Sure, there are some advantages (MLS access, acting as your own agent) to holding a license but there are disadvantages as well (you're held to a different legal standard in deals). If all you're looking for in a RE license is access to the MLS and to lower your transaction costs, it seems way better to just do a deal than to go through the whole licensing process. Because a good chunk of what you have to learn to get a RE license has no bearing on whether or not something is a good investment.
Listen to the BP podcasts. You don't need 50 different other podcasts. If you listen to every show, you'll know as much about RE as you need to:
a) Do most any deal you might want to do
b) Know what other podcasts you might want to listen to
They're on show 191 and each show is about an hour. That's 191 hours of education from people from all corners of the business.
Unless you listen and say, "OMG, these guys are horrible. I can't stand that @Brandon Turner's voice" or something like that, personally, I don't think you're going to do any better elsewhere.
Yes, there are some people who do podcasts that are laser focused on a particular niche but based on what you said in the OP you don't seem to really have a niche yet which is why I say that by listening to the BP podcast you'll learn what other podcasts you should be listening to. You'll be able to figure out your niche, hear some people being interviewed who also have their own podcasts, and you can take your education to the next level from there.
Your drive is what, half hour no traffic, an hour or hour and a half with traffic? Let's say you can consume 2 hours a day of podcasts. You've got over 3 months of roundtrip listening. Technically more since you probably don't commute on weekends and they'll be producing more content during those 3 months.
I've never actually checked but let's say 1 out of 10 guests has their own podcast and you already know they're experts in their niche. That's another 19 potential podcasts you'll have been introduced to and can add to your listening.
I was listening to one of the BP podcasts the other day, it was with Tom Krol, I believe but I might be wrong, and I loved his advice that if someone told you that they had taken one of your family members hostage and you had to get a deal under contract within 72 hours, you probably wouldn't spend your time worrying about getting your website perfect or how your business cards looked.
Get the basics down and then don't waste your time trying to know everything about everything until you get some deals under your belt. More podcasts aren't going to put dollars in your pocket if you aren't doing deals. The only thing more podcasts will do is give you an excuse for not pulling the trigger.

I also like @Joe Fairless .com/show -best ever real estate advice show.
Huge range of guests and topics. Good interviewer that likes to give back. About 2 mins of sponsor message - then the good stuff.
Congrats on having the longest running daily podcast ever, Joe!
I like Dave Ramsey and Chris Brown (Biblical perspective and works for DR).
Also like BP, Joe Fairless, Real Estate Guys, Cashflow Guys.
I highly recommend Real Estate Guys Radio and Real Wealth Network podcasts are good too.
as a broker in two states, I agree with @Bill R., getting a sales license isn't necessary for investing. Ultimately, investing is a means to a lifestyle end. I'd suggest defining what financial peace of mind is to you, and focus on elements of this biz that will get you there fastest. I'd be happy to suggest specific topics that will accelerate deal flow for you if don't mind sharing why you want to be a real estate investor and what you're trying to accomplish.
Thanks so much for all of the responses and warm welcomes everyone! I listened to my first podcast tonight and certainly learned a few things. Great learning tool! And @John Chin, I want to be a real estate investor because I think I have the mindset, character, and drive required to become one. I graduated from college with a degree in business administration so have a basic understanding as to what makes businesses successful. Obviously still A TON of things to learn but I'm hungry and willing to roll up the sleeves, learn from mistakes, and do the extensive research/financial analysis needed. On a more personal note, I was given plenty of opportunities growing up, which I think a large portion of my generation takes for granted. My family was of the middle class variety but I never "wanted" anything. I was fed, enrolled in sports(which can be expensive), my parents helped fund half of my first car, college expenses, etc. I guess what I'm getting at is that I want to give my children all of the opportunities and advantages that I had. From what I've learned so far, REI seems like the path best suited for me to accomplish that. Again, thanks for the response!
Cash Flow Diary with J Massey. Start at Episode 1, so you get his backstory. J Massey is amazing!
BiggerPockets, of course!
I also am a huge podcast addict (also the name of my favorite podcatcher app). 1.5x speed, more info in less time except for music and motivational.
80% is investing (BP, CFD, a few others that are just okay so far), 15% marketing (various), 5% music, motivation (Brendon Burchard), and personal interest.
I'm going out on a limb here with this one, but I enjoy listening to Simon Black on Sovereign Man. He makes great points financially (Universal Law of Prosperity), and with telling insights to the current banking system both nationally and locally applicable. It gives you a much broader perspective of the world, your own possibilities, and awareness of exactly where the financial industry here is headed. Some people consider him a bit radical, but I think the same thing about Dave Ramsey (No such thing as good debt? Seriously? We call that leverage!)
Zach Hubert-Allen I also highly recommend the BP podcasts. You'll likely learn something from every show, regardless of your REI niche.
Also check out the following podcasts. Again, lots of varied content to learn from:
-Michael Quarles Real Estate Show (short and to the point episodes)
-Mobile Home Park Investing (great tips, even if this isn't your niche)
-Flipping Junkie (actionable tips for just about every REI level)
Between everyone's recommendations you'll have tons of content to keep your commute educational!
Best of luck.

@Zach Kidd haha...I agree with you. Sovereign Man is awesome. Ramsey is too conservative.
If you're a landlord, you may want to check out the Rental Income Podcast with Dan Lane. Hope that helps!
Hey there @Zach Hubert-Allen!
Here is a list of some of my favorites! All of which I have found very helpful..... Of course many more are great as well. I would advise just start finding BP Podcast titles that interest you, and press play. If 20 minutes into it it's not serving a purpose for you, go to the next.

Thanks so much @Patrick Robb ! I've been listening to a ton of them and will certainly look into these.
thank you Patrick!
@Zach Hubert-Allen. I recommend ALL of the BP Podcasts. Each one is unique and very informative and presented in a way that anyone can understand. The guests are very generous with their knowledge and examples of how they run their business. Most importantly, they are REAL PEOPLE! They share the good and the bad! When they've made mistakes they share, their successes they share. They're conversational and even funny.
I joined BP earlier this year and while I haven't completed all, I've listed to Podcast from 100 and up. I started by choosing a topic I'm interested in listened to that. Every morning on my bike ride I chose a podcast and I listen to it TWICE. Once one the way out, and again when I'm on the home. Now that I'm at the most recent I will go back and listen to one of my favorites, or a strategy I want to learn more about, or one of the earlier podcasts.
All I can say is "pearls of wisdom". You will never go wrong picking a BP podcast.
And Josh and Brandon aren't bad either :-) . Seriously Josh and Brandon are great on the podcasts.
Happy Listening and Investing
