Passed State Exam, now What?

Okay BP, I've just passed the state exam. Now what?

Can any realtor tell me what they felt once you received your license and found a broker to hang it with?

What do I need to focus on now that I'm about to be licensed?

All comments and pointers are welcomed good or bad!

Hi James,

First off, congrats! Now the work begins. I hope you interviewed a few brokers to get a feel for what each would offer ( training, support, leads, etc). Once that is done, take all the classes that the broker offers (the more the better). Find someone in the office (an agent who has a bit of experience) to tell you how they started, what worked for them, what didn't.

As far as getting clients, start with those that you know. Let your friends and family know (e-mail, social media). That's how most of us get started. Being a broker is a word of mouth business. How do people find agents? By asking other people if they have worked with anyone! Once that is done, get yourself a farm (a radius of approx. 1 mile around you). You can use tools such as sales genie to pull addresses for your farm. Once you have that, send out mailers introducing yourself. Don't stop there, do so every month or so, so people get to know your name!

Being a real estate agent is a hard business. Do not get discouraged! It may take a while until you get that first client but just continue marketing and networking and business will start rolling in!
